Alright – who wants a “No Prize?”

Hulk Boo 001

I love bad movies – bad, bad movies – but boy was I surprised when I saw this image in the movie I was watching!  Alright – so here’s the No Prize opportunity:

  • Name the movie
  • Name the Actor in the front seat
  • Identify the issue number of the Incredible Hulk that is being read

Good Luck!  If anyone gets this – it will probably be Hulk #465… but we’ll see – I will be really shocked if anyone gets all the answers…  Answer posted on Monday!  As well as the review for Son of Hulk #13/14…

A Week of Valkyrie – Friday (Defenders #27)

Hulk Stuff again 006

Let’s end this week with a great cover featuring the one and only Hulk saving Valkyrie.  Because – well, heck, why not – Valkyrie may be a powerful, scary woman with a bad-ass attitude – but she still needs the Hulk to come to the rescue every once in a while – to which he answers that call!

This was a fun week – I have next week’s character all set – it will be interesting to try and get a full week out of a few of these foes!

Hulk #14 (2009) – The Review

Hulk #14

Hulk #14

I’m not sure I want to admit this – I’ll have a hard time even typing this – I didn’t think this issue was half bad…  Listen, if you take in account Mr. Gary Miller’s theory about the Red Hulk – which I think is pretty damn accurate – then this issue is a bit better.  If I wasn’t so sure he was correct I’d probably be just as aggravated with the whole, at this point ridiculous, “Who is the Red Hulk” storyline.  But theorizing you know what you know – the issue reads a bit better.  For example – every time you see Ross (MODOCK) speaking – just picture MODOCK (Ross-LMD) saying all that to Ross (Red Hulk).  It makes so much more sense… wait, does that make sense, what I just posted?

So, this issue starts with Domino seeing something she’s not supposed to see – who the Red Hulk is!  He chases after her, ready to kill her off – but she gets away in the end.  As the Red Hulk argues about going after her with Samson and Ross (although – let’s just call him LMD for short 🙂 ) Ross – I mean, LMD tells Red Hulk to assemble a team together to take Domino out.  First up?  Deadpool!

Deadpool is busy fighting off a bunch of LMD’s of himself.  When Red Hulk arrives he starts taking all the robots out until he finds the real Deadpool.  He offers him money to join his team and Deadpool obliges (Look, I know a lot of people LIKE Deadpool nowadays – and he’s a character that’s funny and cool – but I don’t get the hype surrounding him – I really don’t!)  Next up is locating Castle – the Punisher.  Red Hulk offers him intelligence because money wouldn’t work with him – with Thundra and a Russian Iron Man knock-off, all they are waiting for is Electra to complete their team.  Wait, if the Red Hulk took down a Hellicarrier and faced off against 5 of the strongest women in the MU – why does he need a team to take down Domino?

Maybe because when they do find Domino she has a  team herself – X-Force.  I still think Loeb’s writing leaves a lot to be desired – and this whole “mystery” thing is wearing paper thin.  But – one of the worst things?  This issue has an ultra-rare 1 in 200 variant with Deadpool on the cover.  No, I didn’t get one – but I know the sales figures will be very inflated because of it.  Anyways, this issue gets a solid C+

The Incredible Hulk #601 (2009) – The Review

The Incredible Hulk #601

The Incredible Hulk #601

So, the Hulk is gone – Banner’s on his own – out to find his son.  But there is good news – Pak is back!  Now, this issue starts with Banner on a train where a young boy is abused by his father.  When Banner steps in the man hits him – and what normally would’ve ended with the entire city in rubble – ends with Banner instead threatening the man by letting him know he has all his information (taken off of his cell phone) and if he ever hits the kid again he’ll destroy him.  When Bruce reaches his stop he’s greeted by the FF, Cap, Spidey Hercules, Wolverine, and others.  Banner jokes by asking if he’s getting the key to the city – Reed quips back with “Sorry, you didn’t exactly endear yourself to the locals the last time you hit town.”  they trade a few more barbs before entering the Baxter Building.

Reed tries to inform Banner of everything he knows about Skaar – but Banner knows everything already – and then a spaceship comes flying out of Bruce’s nose.  No, I’m not kidding.  A spaceship.  Out of his nose.  The ship contains Pym, Beast, Black Panther and Cho.  They’ve been studying Bruce form the inside and have found no traces of Gamma-Radiation.  No sign of the Hulk at all.  Banner knows all of this as well – but tells them all that he knows the Hulk will be back.  No matter what – he will be back – and he wants to be ready for it.  Before Reed can ask more, Bruce grabs the Hulk’s sword and says he just wanted his stuff back, and teleports out of there.

Bruce goes to the Mojave Desert and gets ready for Skaar.  A large shadowy Hulk-ing figure appears – Skaar leaps across the country only to find that it is not the Hulk.  Instead Bruce has climbed inside the red robot from TTA #60/61 – (Thanks for the note Mark P) and it feeds off of Skaar’s Gamma energy.  Skaar switches to his Old Strong power and beats the robot pretty quickly.

Skaar continues to try to beat Bannner down – but Banner uses shields to block Skaar’s blows.  Skaar finally calms down enough to listen to Bruce – who tells him that he knows he wants a chance to kill the Hulk – and the Hulk wants the same.  The Hulk is just as angry because Skaar killed his mother, the Hulk’s queen, all over again.  He destroyed Sakaar – and he will beat Skaar.  But Bruce wants him to be ready when the Hulk comes back – so he tells him he’s going to help by picking a fight.  Then, we see a blast hit an RV and it reveals Juggernaut sitting in his easy chair – and a little pissed off.  Get ready for a fight – a good one!

Juggy - and no, he is not on the toilet

Juggy - and no, he is not on the toilet

Alright, do you see how a build up is necessary to make a fight not only make sense but also seem real exciting?  I’m excited for the next issue!  I want to see Skaar take on Juggy – but it makes it better because it wasn’t just a random fight.  It wasn’t out of left field and all of a sudden!  I liked the fact that they are showing just how smart Bruce is – I love when writers don’t forget that Bruce is one of the 8 smartest people on the face of the earth – that Bruce is no slouch and can take care of himself!  And Skaar looks bad-ass!  He is certainly an entertaining character to watch – even while we’re waiting for the Hulk to come back!  The issue gets a B+ from me.  I liked it a lot and am eagerly awaiting the next issue.  What did you guys think?
