The Incredible Hulk #610 (2010) – The Review

TIH #610 - Hulk is back!

Guess who’s back?  Back again?  Hulk is back… tell a friend… and all I can say is thank freakin’ goodness they got Pak to come back and write this!  The only man able to take the drivel Loeb has been shoveling our way and making it sweet as hell!  This whole story is almost like every other Marvel story – except just the opposite.  And by that I mean, this was a crap story, until the end, which has completely rocked!  It’s interesting, fun and ties into everything else – unlike anything Loeb has done thus far… and  bonus – it has a JRJR that I actually love!

Betty... relives her better days... of death

This stellar issue starts with Bruce crying over spilled Betty blood as Betty recounts how the Leader made her into the Red She Hulk.  While everyone is ready for her to die – including Betty herself – Samson comes out of the woodwork to save her… by making her angry and making her change.  Betty – now the Red She Hulk starts beating Samson to a pulp.  And then Cho shows up – looking like the Gremlin on steroids – changed, like all the heroes, by the Leader and M.O.D.O.K.’s ray – except, now Cho – who was one of the 8 smartest men in the world – is now THE smartest.

Cho... lookin' fine for the ladies!

As Reed, Pym, McCoy and T’Challa all work on reverting the Hulked out Heroes back to normal the Leader and M.O.D.O.K. show up and release some of Leader’s Humanoids.  Only, with Cho on Bruce’s side, they don’t last very long.  Bruce beats on the Leader – and is even ready to kill him – but gets distracted and the Leader has the chance he needs to escape.  M.O.D.O.K., on the other hand, is facing off against Cho – who is now so bad ass he actually transforms the giant head into human form!

Cho vs MODOK... Head vs Head...

Now, with Samson’s help, Bruce begins to take the gamma energy out of the heroes – and so that the machine doesn’t explode before it finishes – Bruce starts to absorb the excess… and radiating himself into his former green glory!  The machine begins to take on too much energy and in a final bid to show that he was always a hero, Samson steps in.  His energy is siphoned off so much – he is actually burnt to a crisp – only having enough time to tell Bruce how he’s always believed in him – and so has Betty.  Reed worries about what the Hulk will do once he’s released – but Cho reminds him, that’s what Bruce has been training Skaar to deal with all this time.

Banner screams like it's 1962 all over again!

And then it happens.  The machine explodes – the Hellcarrier is destroyed – the world is saved – and the Hulk is back!  Much to the delight of Skaar, who raises his sword and says “Finally.”

I missed you Big Green!

This issue couldn’t be any better – with a huge brawl set for the next issue – it should be even more fantastic!  I can’t wait!  Grade: A+

  1. YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!! The Hulk is back!

  2. Mr.Hulk_Smashin'!

All I have to say is….
I wish that I could click and “like” and “thumbs up” button like on Facebook! :p This sounds…… INCREDIBLE!

    • Mr.Hulk_Smashin'!

what would have been even more awesome is if they said “Banner Re-Gamma-fication: 110% compared to previous levels” so he’s a little more powerful then before

  3. Yeah! ’bout time. I like how Bruce is posed inside the cathexis machine almost exactly the same way as the original G-bomb explosion.

Thank the maker for Greg Pak. Talk about a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

Only crap thing is it looks like no Hulk issues in July. Just a couple Hulked Out Heroes books. Meh. August is the father/son smackdown.

  4. I said a few months ago there is at least one unknown target of the eight smartest missing. If you read carefully this issue confirms it. Bruce said the Leader never thought Cho was one of the eight smartest. Modok and Leader have both said they were after eight. Bruce, Doom, Pym, Beast, Panther, Reed, and even Stark make up only 7. If Cho was not on the list someone else is. The Presence? Monica? Maybe the Gremlin is coming back.

    • According to the Leader, he himself was at the top of the list, so he’s the 8th in your list. Banner & co.’s 8 smartest list probably looks a bit different from Sterns’.

      ~G.

      • That’s a good point G – in fact, I would bet most people’s list would look diffrently – for example, Reed’s would not be the same as Banner’s or Pym’s – and not one of them would be on Thanos’ list…

      • That is true but Modok and Leader had in a number of issues said they were after eight. I think that comment was a red herring. Bruce told Cho he is only the tenth smartest. You are going to say Bruce was counting Modok and the Leader. And that may be right. But in that same issue a few pages earlier Modok mentions Banner among the “remaining eight”. So he is talking about heroes, including Stark, who the Leader mentioned in Loeb’s issue that month. The quote was “you don’t think we have Tony Stark to push around anymore?”It only adds up to seven.

  5. Hey I have a quick question for you guys… I noticed after the explosion there was a panel with Spidey, thing and another guy with long blondish greenish hair. Who is this supposed to be, Thor?

    • That was Thor, though everybody’s mistaking him for Samson.

      And Zeno:

      Leader’s list as follows:

Leader, Doom, Richards, Banner, Stark, Pym, T’Challa, McCoy = 8.*

      Banner’s fake-out list:

Leader, Doom, Richards, Banner, Stark, Pym, T’Challa, McCoy, M.O.D.O.K., Cho. (10, with Cho’s ranking making sense in that context. Explains why M.O.D.O.K. isn’t one of the 8.)

      Banner’s “real” list:

Doom, Richards, Pym, Banner, Stark, T’Challa, Cho, McCoy. (That’s 8, with Cho in his proper spot at 7.)

      * = In no particular order, but I suspect Leader’s list is just how he sees it.

      ~G.

      • Gary I usually agree with you 9 times out of 10. And you have done really good track record figuring out the Red Hulk mystery. However you left out a key point. In my last post I mentioned Modok the “remaning eight” so we know there are eight who are targets of Leader and Modok. They are not including themselves. Minus Cho that is leaves one missing even with Stark. To back this up in Loeb’s issue that same month Modok says that have 7 targets and Leader mentions he forgot Tony Stark. Now we know Cho was not on their list. So minus Stark you still only have six. One person is missing.

Who is that one person? He might be Russian. Remember the Presence mutated Igor, the spy who helped create the Hulk. Was Igor was going to warn someone? Maybe the Gremlin is still alive . We never saw the body. In fact this fits the style of a Loeb mystery. Albert Falcone and Mrs Dent, him as the unfound corpse and her as the twist ending “other” killer. The Gremlin fits the role of both. Or it is the Presence himself? Either one would qualify.
