Mego Palitoy Hulk (1978)

Palitoy Mego Hulk
Hulk on the side
Kicking off the Ultra-Rare month – this Mego figure!  If you look at te Mego Museum website there are quite a few different backing cards the figures came on.  One of the more rare cards is this one called the Palitoy card.  This is a lot better than the regular Mego card – I mean, just look at it!  How freakin’ fantastic is this!  There is even a better transformation illustration on the back!  While you often see the 1979 carded figure – this is the one to pick up – it may be slightly pricier but it’s worth it!
Back of the card!

This unpunched carded figure is now is a case, displayed proudly with the other Mego figures I have.  There is a figure just like this one on ebay right now – if you want to go for it – you totally should!  One of my favorite things about vintage items is how great they look.  Of course the figure is still the same – but that’s the great thing about the mint in package or mint on card figures.  They have a totally different look!  A more impressive look.  I am hoping to one day have the super rare Mego card but for now I am happy with what I have.

Megos on Parade! Both of my carded Megos!

I am a man. I like the world I live in. I would like it better if pumpkins were available year-round though...

  1. Wow, what an amazing cardback! I remember having a collection of Mego dolls back in the day (Hulk, Superman, Spider-Man, Green Arrow, Batman and Robin, the Joker… the list goes on). I think my favorites were Captain America and the Falcon.

But I don’t think I have ever seen a Palitoy cardback like this! What a find!!

    1. Yeah – I was psyched to snag this figure!

You’ve seen the Mego Museum website, right? If not – it’s in my blogroll – check it out!

  2. I was wondering when you were going to post something about that header photo of the Hulk. You know, that’s a Jim Starlin transformation (Marvel Super Action #47) but the head has been redrawn by someone else…I know it’s also on the retro lunchbox cover. Do you have a pix of the lunchbox transformation? Always looking for a good scan. Thanks.

    1. Marvel seemed to do that a lot – mixing artists artwork. I have that issue too – but I ddn’t connect the two until I read this comment! But it is funny too – because I looked at the image and thought something didn’t look right! Thanks for the info!

  3. Awesome find! I have a boxed and a carded pink version, but not the orange one. By the way the new Head was done by John Romita for the Palitoy Jim Stalin image. Super Action???? I know the names can be confusing like- Marvel Triple Action or Double Feature. I have Marvel Super-Heros#47 and it’s an awesome cover.

    1. I am looking to pick up the boxed version – but for a good price – and o far I haven’t found anything that I would consider fair…

  4. I found a pix of the Hulk transformation on that old lunch box and although it’s the same transformation sequence, it’s been done by a completely different artist. So that makes it 3 artists!
