Custom Painted Red Hulk Bust (2012)

Red Hulk Bust

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, this is a Red Hulk bust in my collection!  First off – it was super cheap – and secondly, I love this sculpt.  The fact that someone took the Grey Hulk version and painted it red was too cool to pass on.  Although – the green would have been my first choice to customize (no shirt) but, as any of you painters out there know, red is a really hard color to get to cling to anything.  If you are painting anything red be prepared to do about 6 or more coats – sometimes even WITH a well primed wall.

Your facing the wrong way Dummy...

Primer is usually a muted grey color – which is why it make sense to customize the grey Hulk bust – the issue comes when you have to decide what to do with the shirt.  The Red Hulk doesn’t wear a shirt… let alone a black one – but I guess the painter thought he would take the cue from the color of his pants.

That is That

Having the 3 busts all together does make it look really cool – but let’s get crazy thinking that this means I will be adding a whole bunch of Red Hulk crap to my Hulk room!  Listen, he would have been a great Hulk villain – had Marvel not screwed that up – and I do like the idea behind the character – but… let’s put it this way – you won’t be seeing any Sideshow Comiquette of the character in my collection.  Or any SS Hulk Comiquette for that matter… man, that is one ugly piece!

Red Light! Green Light!

  1. Agree with you about the villain aspect. Red could have become a classic arch enemy. But even if Marvel had gone that way they probably would have overdone it a la Venom and ruined the character through over-exposure. Having said that, they didnt overcook Maestro, in fact they undercooked him! Hope they get a decent writer on board and bring him back with a cracker of a story. Anyway I think its still possible for Red to become a great villain – for some reason I can see his current popularity lasting. I believe his popularity was down to the ‘new character factor’ at first and has been continued due a good writer. Once he gets saddled with a mediocre writer I can see the book getting cancelled. Hopefully then Marvel will see sense and give the arch-enemy role he should have had from the beginning! Thats my 2 cents!!

  2. Naw they would have forgotten about him along with Madman & Ravage. Funny thing is that that Mandman pops up BRIEFLY in every other meduim but the comics! He was in the the 03 video game and he makes a very brief appearance in the Avengers cartoon but we haven’t seen him in the comics since 93.

  3. Ya Truka! Red should have been the real Hulk. There should be no red. He looks like that guy from DC anyways. A COPY OF Major Force. Red Sucks! Ruining my Marvel Universe.

  4. @MrMorbid. Maybe youre right, since as I said they seem to have forgotten about Maestro and he is a brilliant enemy. Would love to see Madman back, he also had classic villain potential. Not sure about about Ravage. Didnt rate him much, but then I didnt like the Rampaging Hulk book, so maybe thats why.
