Indestructible Hulk #2 - 2nd print!

Indestructible Hulk #2 – 2nd print!

Sure enough a pile full of comics have started to pile up on my desk of issues I have not reviewed yet.  The Avengers has not been so Hulk-tastic lately and I think Thunderbolts is already hitting a speed bump… but let’s dive right in, shall we?

Last we left our troop of “for hire mercenaries” the Punisher did what so many other heroes should have done to the Leader after the 30th time he has tried to rule the world – shot him dead.  Of course, that won’t make him stay dead… I am not sure I should bother getting into why- I mean, Hulk has a healing factor, it only makes sense that the Leader would too, but Ross takes him to pour some Gamma radiation and make him all better.  Meanwhile, as Thunderbolts #4 (W: Way, I: Dillon, 2013, $2.99) progresses, Venom goes to free Elektra, caught by the enemy last issue, while Punisher and Deadpool face off against Madman.  What could have been a great moment in comics was ruined the annoying presence of Deadpool so we were left with a fight that was over before it really started.  Grade: C+

Now, in the Avengers #4&5 (W: Hickman, I: Kubert, 2013, $3.99) they have their hands full trying to quarantine the the Garden’s bio-weapons sites.  As they discover the sixth site in the Savage Land we are also “treated” to a Hyperion origin.  Once at the Savage Land the Avengers who went discover A.I.M. already hard at work experimenting with the found alien discoveries.  Namely, they inject the goop from a pod inside of a person who immediately dies and tentacles burst forth from their stomachs.  As disgusting as that is – A.I.M. also found the seventh site left by the Garden.

Then, a woman named Izzy finds a pair of spectacles that gives her the powers (and the suit) to help super guardians fight off an alien invasion on the planet Chandilar.  The Avengers, including the Hulk, come toward the tail end of the battle to help beat the attackers and some clean up.  The quick cameo of the Hulk in the story maybe a panel or two long – but they still manage to crowbar in his new-old catchphrase.  Grade: B-
