I have avoided the more expensive figures for a good reason – I just can’t see that they are worth the prices that are asked for them. I have to feel like I can happily shell out the money for something and feel I was able to get my money’s worth. So I finally jumped on the chance to pick up the Gladiator Hulk figure from S.H.Figuarts – a Japanese import that boasts a triple digit price tag.
For those impressive clams you get a very poseable figure with switch out hands and an extra face. Great news for anyone who has been stuck with the American Marvel Legends and Marvel Select versions of the Gladiator Hulk figures that all seem to have the same sort of stoic facial expression.
For anyone wondering the differences between this and the Marvel Legends BAF Hulk I can tell you with the utmost certainty that, since you can usually snag the ML BAF for a quick $35-$50, the S.H.Figuarts isn’t worth the extra cash. I know that might shock some of you – but for the extra articulation and obviously superior paint job – it’s still not enough to pay an extra $70-$100 for!
I do appreciate the added detail and think the quality is there – don’t get me wrong – this is a beautiful figure! But overall, I can’t see paying the added cash for a figure that is just that… a figure! This is my first – and probably last – expensive action figure and while I am happy to have it it’s price tag is still hard to swallow and not feel like I’ve been ripped off. I was bummed to see that the box isn’t even a window box that you can display with the figure safely tucked inside.
I know plenty of people who have picked this up and are elated with this piece – unfortunately I can’t say I am one of them.
