DPS Robot Hulk beating down Nova!
Alright, let me just say I have not forgotten or abandoned you guys! I have a ton of stuff to still post I just have to find the time! So, that brings us to this – while I would like to delve into the original art with both feet – but the unfortunate part of being into any collectibles market is the rise and fall of prices and values. Right now OA is on the rise – and splash pages are an easy grand. Luckily, this Double Page Splash was not anywhere near that!
Beautiful mug! Love the rage in the face!
There are a few reasons that this page was considerably less – in fact, the biggest reason is – this isn’t actually the Hulk. It’s a robot. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s an incredible Hulk drawn by Joe Bennet and that is a double page splash. Another reason is that it comes from a short lived series – Nova, volume 2 – which, if you ask around, was a pretty good series. That seems to happen with the best of them – the best series don’t really last all that long. Too bad.
Hulk swatting away Nova!
Hulk #2, Page #15 - signed by Ron Garney
So, here’s the thing – some of you have noticed some of my Hulk pages on the bay… I am trying to focus my collection a bit. See, my new goal is to have a published page by every artist that has drawn the Hulk. I am on my way – and even made a really nice snag with this Ron Garney page! Back when they re-titled the comic just “Hulk” Garney was there handling the drawing duties. I really enjoy a lot of his art – but this page was a fantastic find – on the bay – and I couldn’t believe I was the only bidder! After I had won and posted it on Statue Forum a few of the people there admitted that they were also watching this auction – and missed the end of it to bid.
The Fuzz is in trouble!
That makes me all that happier – because it’s all mine now! Even the last owner told me he hated to let it go – but had to. Let’s take a gander at my lovely page shall we? Heck, this is almost a splash page – the Hulk on the bottom, menacing over the Police Chief – holding the little girl – it’s just a great page to look at! Much like my action figure wall – I want to try to create a art wall. But that’s something I am missing… wall space. Anyways, if you haven’t noticed I have re-designed the ART page and separated the published pages from the commissions – easier to navigate that way.
Last but not least – tomorrow I will be posting my Maestro statue! I just finished uploading all the pics – and there are quite a few! So don’t miss out! Make sure you come back!
Jerry Macaluso Hulk Sculpt
Look at that snarl!
I have a friend from the Statue Forum that has an amazing Hulk collection himself – check in tomorrow because I will be posting pics from his collection here! – but, Jade Giant – or JG – has a few rare pieces in his collection that are to freakin’ die for. Last Monday I went into Reading and in this great Comic Shop called Comically Speaking (highly recommended!) the owner there had a couple of rare pieces that I picked up. I picked up quite a few things but 2 pieces that are just extremely rare that I couldn’t help but pick up. This is one of them! Not much is known about this very rare kit – a few things that are known though are that Jerry Macaluso of SOTA toys back in 1999 sculpted this Hulk in an attempt to get a Marvel License. Here is the mock-up of the promo artwork:
It was supposed to be a two piece sculpt – Hulk vs. Wolverine – but only the Hulk was made. And because Marvel didn’t pick up this license then this piece was never made. A master sculpt and one mock-up for Marvel was made. Then someone from the SOTA toy company got a hold of it and did an extremely small run. It’s unknown for sure exactly how many were made but it’s estimated that there were only 10 to 20.
Hulk Claw! - No Base.
Like I said – only 10 to 20 – but no one really knows! When I walked into Comically Speaking and saw this kit I was floored! A seller on ebay recently tried to sell his but put it up for $1,200. First off, he totally lied in his description of the sculpt claiming that only 4 were made. Then, he wrote that because there’s only 4 and there’s 50 exclusive Hulk vs. Spiderman dios that sells for over $1,000 then this must be worth the same! Well, sorry buddy, that’s not exactly how it works. I paid what I thought was a reasonable price – if it was anymore I wouldn’t have picked it up – but the owner seemed to know exactly what he was doing. By the way, the ebay auction never even finished because he was reported as a fraud for lying about the item he was selling. But no worries, no had bid and no one was going to buy this for that ridiculous price anyways.
Kit vs. Maquette
It’s not very big, shown here with the other rare item I got (that’s right, a repainted grey Hulk Maquette, I will be posting this next week)- but it’s such a unique take on the Hulk, great pose! There’s so much potential there – it’s so masterfully sculpted and has the fluid motion and raw power of the Hulk that no other sculptor has ever captured! It’s unbelievable that Marvel passed on this. I know for a fact that JG has one – and this guy has one – he made his into an unbeatable dio that is surely a great piece for any fan of the Hulk or Terminator!
Hulk vs Leader!
This is a grail – a grail to be sure – and since I’ve seen Hulk vs. Wolvie and Terminator in this pose I decided to go with Hulk vs. Leader! The Leader is from the Face-Off 2-pack. I like the McFarlane Leader even though people say his head looks like a pair of testicles. This sculpt doesn’t have a base. It had none to speak of. Most of the sculpts I have seen have a custom base. I’m thinking of making one – but I will have to see.
Leader does not stand a chance!
Hulk drinks milk – apparently. I like milk too. When it is really cold – perfect with chocolate. REALLY cold. Like ice cold. These milk ads were everywhere and it’s good to see that Hulk wasn’t left out. Although, Hulk still looks pissed! Maybe he just took a sip and found out that his milk was sour – not totally sour – but right on the verge of being sour – like a day or 2 after the sell by date! Man, I hate that.
I have some of these from friends. The sun began to fade them so I moved them to the side of the fridge where the sun can’t touch them. Ha-ha Sun! It’s: Me=1 Sun=0.
Each trade here contains about 30 comics in each. The only draw back to them is that they are all in black and white – so if you want to see the comics in their original color – don’t buy these. They are up to collecting volume 4 which has 143 – 170.
This is a custom Hulk Light Switch cover made from an image to the cover of Incredible Hulk #112. I bought this off ebay many, many years ago. I like this mainly because I think it’s very unique and has alot of character! It’s also perfect for the Hulk room that I will start building once I move. I will keep you posted on that…
