Let’s have a little fun and discuss some of the more graphic, violent, sad, or just plain awkward moments that have plastered the Hulk history. Be it a passing meeting between spouses of a gruesome scene that nobody saw coming – this year I’ll have you squirming in your seat!
I mentioned before that Aaron’s run could easily be this whole list. His run served of exactly how to lose a whole run of Hulk fans in two issues. But I decided to choose to only pick a couple of the worst moments from Aaron’s run – and oddly, the other moment I picked comes from the same issue – but yes – I have chosen the scene of just how the Hulk managed to separate himself from Banner. With the help of another brilliant (albeit it, evil) mind – Doctor Doom. Doom performs brain surgery on the Hulk with… wait for it… a adamantium chainsaw.
As ridiculous as it sounds it plays out even more insane on the pages. Under the talent of Whilce Portacio we see Doom lowering the said chainsaw to a strapped down Hulk. The Hulk… strapped down. Let that sink in for a moment. Also, later in the comic Doom states that he can actually SEE the parts of the brain that belong to Banner and which belong to the Hulk. The series only gets worse from there…
I have so many more to show off – I’m going to keep this little party going! We will continue with MTE #20 – Hulk vs Doom – I remember these issues well – as they are some of the last that I needed to finish off the entire run. This issue not only reprints the Doom issues (#143 and #144) but the earlier issues of The Incredible Hulk #136 and #137. One of the best parts is the small pin-up gallery at the end of this issue. The only real problem I have with this whole thing is the back cover which features one of the worst renditions of the Abomination ever!
Doom, Absorbing Man, Wasp 3-Pack?
I told you before that these 2-packs were done right by Marvel. You get 2 figures – really well done figures – AND a comic to go with it? All for $12.99. Yes, thank you! Now, I know Hulk really has nothing to do with this package – but let’s look at it this way – in every Hulk line of toys they have had an Absorbing Man. The Absorbing Man was in the 2003 Hulk movie. Hulk has sort of adopted this great character – so in turn – I have added this to my Hulk collection. Not to mention that he comes with one of the best Marvel villains ever – Dr. Doom! So, how can you say no to this?
The Sculpts are pretty damn nice on these!
Not to mention – it comes with a third figure – a teeny tiny Wasp. Although, a lack of a face is a little disturbing!
Wasp... without a face
Hulk and Doom Mini-Mates 2-Pack
Let me tell you – Doom knows the power he’s dealing with when he tangles with the Hulk. As evident as his first encounter with him in the now classics Incredible Hulk #143 and #144 – Doom wanted to harness the Hulk’s power for is own greedy needs – but this isn’t the last time the two tangled. Hulk also had to suffer through Doom trying to mess with him when in Incredible Hulk #350 and Fantastic Four #320. But this Mini-Mate 2-pack combines the 2 enemies, and I have to say, I was a bit surprised. Nicely surprised – because how many times are they going to package the Leader, Abomination, the Thing and others with the Hulk! I like to see more of a change when Hulk toys are packaged with another character.
