There are Hulk dry spells where new Hulk products are few and far between! It’s sometimes difficult to know what to do with this site when there aren’t a whole lot of Hulk items to post. It should be no wonder then why I get so excited, during these dry spells, to find Hulk cups like this. I don’t need anymore Hulk cups – that’s for sure – but I did like the difference with this cup as it is black with classic images and even the boast of “Still $.25!” that adorned the covers of Hulk issues back in the 200s for 3 issues.
There are a few Avengers: Infinity War opening day collectibles. Did I tell you the story how I went to the opening day event at my local theater and received the Infinity Gauntlet coin and collectible cup went awry? You see, I am so accustomed to throwing away my trash after the movies that I tossed the cup right into the waste barrel. I didn’t even realize until I was halfway home! It was the red and black cup that kicked all sorts of ass – but hey, life happens.
A few weeks later my friend told me that he had a collectible cup that had a giant Hulk head on the top. When he went to the concession stand to collect the cup he found out the Hulk was already sold out. But then – yes, there is more to this story…
On the movie manager retreat he saw the company who created the cups with a stand in the lobby of the hotel. He immediately went over and requested the Hulk head – alas, those were not the pieces he brought – but instead had the full figure big headed Hulk instead! I was psyched to finally get an exclusive movie cup from the latest Avengers movie.
Vintage! Vintage Thursday! You have to sing that first part… I received this Hulk cup in what I lovingly refer to as the Hulk care package. A SF member – dynabol – the same man who sold me the Hulk kit packed the box with a generous amount of Hulk memorabilia. This is one of the pieces I was very happy to get. A 1977 Hulk plastic cup – each side of this cup has something different. The front has a classic image of the Hulk. Buscema has the honor of being one of the artists who are considered the ultimate Hulk artists. That happens when you stick with the creative team for YEARS. Trimpe did it, Buscema did it, now, Keown and McFarlane wasn’t with the book very long in comparison but when they both did such memorable versions of the Hulk as soon as you see them you know it’s them. I’m rambling…
I love the little bio they slip on the side here – it would’ve been better to see Banner’s face transforming into the Hulk’s – but whatever – when is someone going to contact me to create the layouts for Incredible Hulk cups! The new cups – not the old cups – because the old cups layouts are already designed. Anyways, does the Hulk feel comfortable with the whole world knowing he’s a thousand pounds? If I weighed a THOUSAND pounds I wouldn’t want it written on the side of a cup, that’s for sure!
