I certainly wanted to snag this 3 pack for one reason. The new Thanos head sculpt. I have every ML Thanos that was released starting with the BAF from the original Avengers movie and I didn’t want this one to slip through my fingers. I will say, there was one humongous hurdle to leap: the price. These Marvel Studios 10th Anniversary figures, filled with mostly re-paints and re-issues, are priced pretty outrageously. the single figures are $25 while the 2 packs are topping out at $50. The 3 packs, obviously, were hitting $75 so I didn’t think grabbing this new Thanos was going to work out.
That is until a fateful trip to Target one day, a trip with the whole family in tow, I stumbled across this 3 pack in the clearance section. For half off! It was $34! I looked and looked and could not see anything different, anything wrong at all with it! A random chance at finding a super expensive 3 pack that I desperately wanted clearance out? It was fate, I tell ya!
While the Iron Man and Cumberbatch Strange are kind of cool they really aren’t the reason to pick this up. The BAF Thanos that came with the series, as nice as it was, was not impressive with the oddly stoic head sculpt that came along with it. This new Thanos has a clenched teeth, angry sculpted head that absolutely freakin’ rocks!
The accessories that adorn the figures in this 3 pack are thankfully appropriate but expected. The Strange spells, extra hands, Iron Man blasts and open handed Infinity Gauntlet that accompanies the figures don’t exactly make it worth the retail price tag – but since I found it for a song I was all too happy to snatch this up!
Granted, I get Hulk plush figures because of the Hulk collection – but then I see another soft that doesn’t exactly fit into the theme but still have to pick it up because of how cool it is! I love this little Thanos with his tiny Infinity Gauntlet! If Thanos was real and looked this cute – who knows? I may just let him destroy half the universe due to how cute he is!

With Avengers: Infinity War hitting tomorrow let’s take a look at the new Thanos Build-a-Figure from the Marvel Legends line. The last figure was from the Age of Ultron movie and it was before we really got a shot of what the Mad Titan really looked like. Now, with a more clear vision Marvel has finally shown us what to expect. A lot of people on the interwebs have been complaining that Thanos’ head looks too much like a California Raisin. I am here to say… those people are totally correct – I hate to say it but t truly does look so much like a California Raisin as I was putting this guy together “I heard it Through the Grape Vine” was playing in my head.
The last Thanos, while not perfect, was still pretty great. So much so that I am looking forward to getting the WalMart exclusive that is a basic repaint (and comes with a gauntlet). Still, this new BAF is larger and sculpted to look much like the movie version of Thanos – but that’s where the real compliments end.
The look of this figure is too drab and the skin has no texture so it looks very plastic. With the gold highlights there was a regal, almost arrogant look which fit Thanos perfectly. Here he is almost monotone. He and his leather pants looks like he’s ready to double date with Ross Gellar…
I’m not saying that people shouldn’t buy all the figures to complete this Thanos – but I will say this… if you’re not a completest and want a great Thanos figure then buy the Marvel Select. Still one of the best Thanos figures to grace the shelves ever. Plus the MS comes with Death – so… bonus!

I have stated how much I love the Marvel Legends figures, especially when they are comic accurate, and the latest WalMart exclusive does just that. I know that the figure is a repaint of the BAF from the Avengers line. While I have mixed feelings on the idea of Hasbro re-packaging BAF to buy them singularly I do have to say seeing THIS particular figure I am so glad they did it!
Giving us a complete – and better – repaint with a brighter blue and deeper purple the figure strikes a much better resemblance to the Thanos we know from the pages of the Infinity Gauntlet and beyond. The packaging is even eye-catching with some great comic art on the sides and a Gauntlet featured on the top. The other amazing gift we’ve been given in this new package is an extra head to swap and of course the most important piece – an Infinty Gauntlet.
This is the sort of exclusive to get excited about. When the new figure not only dwarfs, in comparison, to the original but offers a something extra I don’t hesitate for a second to shell out the extra money for it. I don’t have an extra to open so I can’t really speak of the paint application – although it looks to be fantastic!
While the new BAF Thanos is certainly the most movie accurate I would take the new exclusive version every time! This is already going for some major money on eBay – I can’t tell the future but I think this will be highly sought after for years to come. I have to thank my friend Ted who was able to snag me an extra one on one so I didn’t have to shell out the extra dough to the scalpers. WalMart is notorious for having spotty exclusive releases where not every store receives them so finding this guy will prove to be a bit of a challenge for some. Who out there was able to track one of these great figures down?
I think I found out the reason the two are going to battle. It’s because of this sick burn that Thanos laid down in the midst of Infinity War.
Thanos - w/ Infinity Gauntlet
This line of figures has started to impress me; even with the smaller size of these figures the detail on them are outstanding! I thought I’d show some of my nin-Hulk figures. Wave 11 has proven to be extremely scarce around these parts – I was lucky enough to come across a Thanos and Constrictor in a Toys R Us Express – even better they were having a sale on them! While I have only seen these figures just once – I did get REAL lucky with Wave 12 – which is great because that’s the wave that includes WWH and Samson – both of those reviews will be coming up this week.
I wonder if he's Grimace's cousin?
I did want to discuss something – and would like to know what you guys think as well. Recent trips to Target has shown that the $6.99 or even $7.99 price tag are now being replaced again with $8.99. $9 for a 3″ figure? Really Marvel? Really?!?!? Is this what happens when they are bought out by Disney? I have yet to pay that price – I am lucky enough to find Target’s that have not raised the prices yet. In fact, so far I have only had to pay the $6.99 price! A great guy named Ted from SF snagged me a Samson at Walmart where the inflated prices were already in effect – but after finding some in Braintree later that day I was able to return the expensive one.
Juggy! One big mutha!
I know we’re talking about $2 – but that seems like a world of difference when it comes to these figures. What are you guys out there thinking? Who has seen these price increases? How do you feel about them? Who is willing to pay them? Who is ready to boycott?!?
Jugs and Hulk have fought many times - and it's one of the best and most lively debates ever! Can the Hulk stop the Juggernaut?
