Of course with the restart of the Fantastic Four it was only a matter of time before the Thing and the Hulk tussled again.  The Thing has never seen a Hulk like this before so the readers know they are in for a hell of a fight!  With everything going on the world of the Hulk right now I will say I was surprised to see the Hulk even bothering to meet up with the rock monster for the latest fist to cuffs.

CCI08112019_0001 (2)

The issue has the Thing heading on his honey moon with an injected chemical promising to turn the Thing into his former fleshy self.  Once to the vacation point something that has been traveling through the ocean to seek out Grimm.  That thing turns out to be the Immortal Hulk!

The Hulk, being controlled by the Puppet Master, is itching to fight the Thing.  What follows is a classic slamming punch-fest between the two frenemies.  Things are at high tension because the Thing is due to change and due to the ruckus an avalanche was triggered and it has left Alicia, the Thing’s wife, buried under rubble.

This was a quick read that I really wished touched on more of the ongoing series between the two titles but it was still good to see the Thing battling ole’ green jeans himself!  I look forward to the next issue where we see the fight come to a conclusion!

If you’ve ever wondered what made General Fortean such an incredible pain in the ass and a psychotic Hulk hunter well this is the issue you’ve been waiting for!  The issue runs through the whole history beginning with his family life to his first interaction with the Hulk.

We also follow Fortean through his rescue mission to get the new Abomination husk back.  What I appreciated the most in this issue is the constant call backs and reminders that Al Ewing, not only knows his Hulk continuity, but he respects it.  Having Ross remind the readers of the moment when Doc Green stole the gamma powers from him, returning him back to the angry blow hard he always was.

CCI07192019_0002 (2)

Fortean doesn’t even try to argue with Alpha Flight to get the carcass back he just gets beamed into their HQ and immediately takes out Creel and Titania.  He moves to jacking up Samson and Langkowski and then brings the hollow Abomination body back to Shadow Base.

You’d think that would be it – but no – Ewing ends this crazy trip with Fortean suiting up in the actual Abomination husk!

You’ve read above right – the insane variant releases continue!  There are 3 released widely with at least 8 of them being exclusive covers.  That’s a hard trek to climb – including the shipping costs it’s easily going to cost $500 with the premium amount they are asking.  That being said, the comic is still outstanding!

CCI07052019_0001 (2)

Without the secondary market, We still get a compelling story every month that has not slowed down! After the final page of the last issue I was wondering if we were even going to see the Hulk in this issue.  With a book called “Immortal Hulk” I should have known the answer!  Bruce Banner is having a lively conversation with his dead father in “The Place Below”.  You know, as one does.  Brian Banner never stops playing mind games with his son as he also gives information about Gamma and how it’s not just a chemical to blow things up or make green monsters.

Hulk’s healing factor kicks into high gear and he comes to to slap the new Abomination around.  Hulk tells Harpy to rip his stomach out and stop the flesh eating acid – but careful – it’s still Rick Jones underneath after all!  With the reporter still following along and Shadow Base ready to attack, the Hulk uncharacteristically saves the woman when the Shadow Base’s flying tanks approach.  The Harpy and Abomination go at it with both trying to kill each other.  The Harpy takes Abomination high up and as Jones begs to be killed she releases him on top of one of the tanks!

CCI07052019_0002 (2)

The damaged tank runs into the other and they both explode!  Hulk then yells out “TANKS for the memories!”  Just kidding – he doesn’t do that, thank goodness!  He does rip Jones dead body out of the broken Abomination carcass.

Alpha Flight (or Gamma Flight – but I’m not particularly sold on that name) arrive to try and make sense of the scene.  Meanwhile Banner’s starved body wakes in a hell and is confronted by an enlightened being.  The title of the issue gives us a clue to the being Megatron – one of the most powerful angels – but I am unsure of the other body on the floating crater with Banner – does anyone else know who that is?

CCI07052019_0003 (2)

To cap off the issue we are given what seems like a deleted scene and a real enticement for the upcoming Absolute Carnage.  It seems Thunderbolt Ross’ body has also disappeared but crimson tendrils are spotted around the area…

I don’t swear often after reading a comic book but I did this time!  I almost couldn’t even believe what I had just read!  I try to keep the reviews light and don’t give too many exact details because I want you to read the books yourself so keep that in mind when you read the review for this insane issue!

CCI06132019_0004 (2)

We pick up in the past with Captain Fortean flirting with Betty Ross.  We immediately are brought back to the present where we last left the Hulk facing off against the new Abomination.  Dr. McGowan is freaking out that Fortean has released the Abomination in a populated area.  The new gamma infused creation doesn’t know anything but killing – there is no other “human” side to this freak.  Even worse, when the Hulk went to fight this creature it does not go well…

Immediately, Abomination swallows the Hulk’s fist and then regurgitates acid, burning the Hulk’s fist off!  Even worse, Hulk’s healing factor doesn’t seem to be helping at all.  Meanwhile the new Abomination calls out for someone to kill him!  If there is no Rick Jones – no human side at all – who is asking to be put out of their misery?

CCI06132019_0005 (2)

Shadow Base soldiers converge on the area to clean up the mess that their new creation is making – but cleaning up just means the soldiers kill anyone who witnesses the carnage!  That is until Jackie McGee and the Harpy show up.  No matter how much firepower the soldiers brought there really is no match for the Harpy’s speed!  She rips through the armed men in mere minutes, tearing them limb from limb!

CCI06132019_0006 (2)

Fortean doesn’t seem to fazed as he just watches the Harpy rip her way through the army!  Then she follows a scent until she comes across the grizzly scene where the Hulk’s arms, legs and eyes have all been melted from acid!  Thank goodness the Harpy is here to save him, right?  Yeah… not so much.

She claws the Hulk’s chest open and tears out his heart – all while the Hulk asks Betty “why?”!  It’s one of the most insane things I’ve read in the Hulk’s history and I almost couldn’t look away!

Joe continues to be in the driver’s seat.  Bruce comes to a week later in a limo with no idea what the Grey Hulk has been up to.  Samson also wakes and crawls out of the crater left by Fixit’s actions with Alpha Flight on the trail of the Hulk.  Apparently no one told the good Doctor that snitches get stitches because he sends the Canadian super-team off in the direction of his old patient.  Meanwhile, Jackie McGee has made a new friend in the Red Harpy.  Oh – did I mention Bruce is also being trailed by a huge gamma-mass of gross called the Abomination?  This isn’t your Dad’s Abomination either, kiddos!

CCI05292019_0002 (2)

Arriving at Fixit’s Motel Bruce tries to make sense of the mess that is currently his life.  As Bruce enters, the Abomination appears and kills the limo driver with his face-hand!  Bruce tries to organize his thoughts trying to locate the rest of the Hulks while Samson keeps spilling the beans to Alpha-Flight about the Devil Hulk’s plan to kill the eradictate the human world.  The crazy Canucks get in a tizzy thinking the Hulk is out to destroy all humans… all because that’s exactly what he said he wanted to do!  Titania begins talking sense stating that it isn’t just the Hulk people should worry about but the “good” guys trying to stop him.

CCI05292019_0003 (2)

Abomination is doing his best to keep overhead low at Banner’s Motel.  Hulk has a problem with his technique of laying people off and decides to intervene.  While the two Gamma monsters trade blows Hulk tries to figure out who his opponent really is.  When Abomination opens his face-hand he sees two Rick Jones faces staring back at him!

CCI05292019_0004 (2)

Wow, what an issue!  Wow, what a series thus far!  Rick Jones, man, that guy either has it made in the shade of his luck REALLY runs out!  I can’t say I envy his power right now as he seems to be a pretty mindless killing machine!
