Atkins (You’re Doing it Wrong): A Year Worth of Cringe-Worthy Hulk Moments – Week 9

Let’s have a little fun and discuss some of the more graphic, violent, sad, or just plain awkward moments that have plastered the Hulk history.  Be it a passing meeting between spouses of a gruesome scene that nobody saw coming – this year I’ll have you squirming in your seat!

There are two types of people in Hulk lore – those who see the tragic state of Dr. Banner’s… condition and those who see him and want to harness the unimaginable power for themselves.  The latter are the people to watch out for.  Such is the case of Hubert St. Johns – a man who has hired two unhinged scientists to not only capture the Hulk but to figure out a way to give him the gamma power he seeks.

He gets what he wants… as you can see – but of course gamma power, being so unpredictable (or at least it was until… say… 2008), does different things to different people (or at least it did… until… say 2008 and 2015) and Mr. St. Johns received all the gamma power he wanted – and more – as it accelerated the fat in his body to a terrifying amount.  Notice the floor buckle where he stands.

His dream is short-lived of course as he begins to choke on his own bursting insides and he tumbles onto the two scientists who helped him create the monstrosity he’s become.  Giving us a complete but pretty disturbing ending.  I can’t get the thought out of my head about that poor woman trapped under a ton of sweaty flesh… suffocating her.

Good Read.

No matter what you think happened in the early days of Marvel one thing is certain.  With out Stan Lee being the face of Marvel the heroes we love so much would not be the household names they are today.  The Man hustled and bustled for the company he loves so much.  We will never know what actually occurred or how much the artist contributed and just how much Stan’s writing credits maybe we’re embellished – all we will know for sure is that Stan Lee helped, to some extent, create the Marvel Universe and for that I will be forever grateful!  The article does bring up some interesting points.  Good read all around.  Take the time to delve in and let me know what you think!

Marvel Legends Thanos BAF (2015)

These Build A Figures have been some of the best of the whole series.  That is, until the recent Red Skull Onslaught BAF.  But, hey – the BAF Thanos offered with the first Avengers ML series is based off the Thanos we’ve seen in the movies.  While it is a very cool figure, Marvel keeps up the tradition of mediocre paint jobs with with a much better version offered by the Marvel Select.  Yes, the Marvel Select version (complete with Lady Death) is the figure to get.  This is still cool – just not AS cool.

Cute… but Wrong.

Granted, more people know about comic book characters than ever before.  Housewives are now aware of more than just Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America Batman and Superman – but that’s still no excuse to mix the two.  Especially if you’re going for a themed picture!  It does matter people!  You can’t just throw random stuffed heroes into your picture and not expect backlash when you don’t do enough research to find out who goes with who!  It’s just plain lazy!

Damn cute, though.

Incredible Hulk Metal Sign (2015)

There are quite a few new Marvel items at Hobby Lobby with a focus on decor for your walls.  Marvel letters – A through Z with a healthy helping of punctuation are available.  The Hulk is featured on selected letters/symbols and while I didn’t pick up any of the letters I did notice that the Hulk was the star of the exclamation point.  How appropriate!  The piece includes classic images straight from the Hulk’c very own self titled series.

While I agree there may not be a lot of moments that an exclamation point can be useful; when it comes to the Hulk I can’t think of a time when the exclamation point isn’t needed!  Especially when some of the art included is from the master himself, Herb Trimpe!  Check it out today!

Dr. Griffin, Eat Your Heart Out – A Year Worth of Cringe Worth Hulk Moments: Week 8

Let’s have a little fun and discuss some of the more graphic, violent, sad, or just plain awkward moments that have plastered the Hulk history.  Be it a passing meeting between spouses of a gruesome scene that nobody saw coming – this year I’ll have you squirming in your seat!

Peter David is easily the most remembered and revered Hulk writers of all time – of course he wasn’t even bullet proof.  There was a time, after the Pantheon fell, that the Hulk needed to hide from the public.  He was a wanted man – and to combat his unique physical attributes the Hulk decided to go with the inconspicuous disguise of wrapping himself in bandages.  With a brain as brilliant as Dr. Banner’s apparently his best choice to hide from the prying eyes of the every man was to look like a patient that survived the towering inferno.

Come on Bruce… you didn’t really think this was going to fool anyone, did you?

Incredible Hulk Laser Print (2003)

Have I ever mentioned that a lot of merchandise came out when the first Hulk movie was released?  The Hulk still hold the record for the most merchandised Marvel movie.  There was THAT much stuff!  Things that I am still finding to this very day… like this piece right here.  A laser print that was an exclusive to Tower Records.  Oh Tower Records, how I miss you!

I was able to purchase this after finding it adorning the walls of Rubber Chicken Comics.  A comic shop I don’t have many opportunities to visit but, thankfully, did get a chance a few weeks ago.  While I picked up quite a few comics I was also able to snag this beauty.  Limited to only 1000 (I wonder of the other owners visit this site – let me know if you also have this!) mine is #346.
