Hulk/Cyclops MU 2-Pack (2009)

This week started on a Tuesday, right? Crap – I’m busted… I’ll be honest – I thought I posted this yesterday. Whoops! Alright, here it is – the latest Hulk figure from the MU line. They’ve given this figure a new head mold, a new color – even a new hand! The head is more 70’s Hulk – which pleases a lot of the Hulk fans – there are quite a few Hulk fans out there that hate the “Moe” haircut that Hulk sported in the 90’s. I can see what they’re saying, how does the hair disappear from the sides of Hulk’s head? It’s like the new Samson double personality… how does his hair go from long to short?

The Secret Wars was a 12 issue mini-series that not only introduced Spiderman’s black costume that would later become Venom, but also had an amazing feat by the one and only Hulk – see, Molecule Man dropped a mountain on a bunch of the heroes including Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman and Mr. Fantastic. The Hulk – yeah, he held the mountain up from killing all the heroes.

This 2-pack comes with Cyclops – and he’s not a bad character at all, just it seems like a waste to set him up with the Hulk. I like how this 2-pack is only $12.99 also. One figure is almost $9.00 – but these are only $4.00 more dollars and come with 2 figures and a comic!

Hulk & Nova SHS (2009)

Holy crap this was hard to find! Let me begin with an apology – I know I haven’t posted a lot this week – I will make up for it tonight – I’ll post a few things. This I found yesterday – at Wal-Mart. I hat shopping at Wal-Mart. I’m just throwing that out there. So this figure is yet ANOTHER SHS figure. There are a bunch of Hulk figures in this line – but this has to me one of my favorites. It’s based off this Gary Frank image:

Not that I’m a huge Frank fan or anything – but this image is freakin awesome! Because the Hulk is supposed to be jumping in this image his hair does look a little funky – almost like he is in a rap war with Kid from Kid N’ Play.

The Superhero Squad line is still one of my favorites – just unique and strong – and don’t forget… the new Superhero Squad cartoon starts this Saturday at 8:30 on the Cartoon Network. Set your TIVOs – don’t forget! I know it’s one I won’t miss! I can’t wait to see how they incorporate the Hulk into the show!

New Hulk Pez – NEW HULK PEZ! (2009)

Is Pez really that big of a deal? Probably not – but still – here is a new Hulk pez. New Head mold, new paint application – my package came with a cherry and orange pez. Grape is my favorite… so it was terribly disappointing to get it and not have a grape flavored Pez.

Somewhere deep down I still want to think that there is actual fruit in Pez. Anyways, I only found it in the bag so far – not on a card, but I will keep an eye out.

Marvel’s Handful of Heroes (2009) – Part 2 – The Hulk Foes!

A few of the Hulk villains were also made into these little plastic figures! Check it out! Most notably the Abomination is in there – I only got the sparkly (or cosmic) Abomination right now – but there’s also Absorbing Man, Rhino, and Iron Clad.

They’ve made some heroes – that are also some of Hulk’s foes – like the Thing, Hulkbuster Iron Man, and Wolverine. There’s also a unique choice – a Hulk villain from out of nowhere – Armageddon. Remember him? If not go get issues #413 – #416 to refresh your memory.
Marvel’s Handful of Heroes (2009) – Part 1

I was supposed to post some of these Friday – but I didn’t have time – and I’m kind of glad I didn’t because I was able to score some more of these Saturday. They have been popping up in select K-Marts and Wal-Marts – it’s strange how very few seem to have them in – but if you’re lucky enough to see these the great thing is you can make out most of the figures inside. That makes it possible to try and avoid doubles as much as possible. It’s not totally avoidable – but good enough.

So, there are forty separate figures – each one has three colors – a solid or matte finish, a clear or translucent and lastly a translucent infused with glitter or cosmic (or “sparkly”). Most of the more popular characters have at least 3 separate variants. For Hulk figures there is the classic, Gladiator (or Planet Hulk) and King Hulk (or WWH). There is also a Red Hulk.

In a strange twist of fate I seem to have gotten all 3 of the Red Hulks but am still seeking out a few of the regular Hulks. I think these little guys are pretty well done – and each package comes with 8 figures. If you’re able to track these down certainly pick some up – tomorrow I will be featuring the Hulk villains available.

A Week of Absorbing Man – Friday (TIH #348)

This is one of my favorite issues with the Hulk against the bald… absorbers. Creel is the first super powered person to go up against the new and improved Hulk – the man named Fixit. And Creel learned quickly, no matter what color, the Hulk will beat him!
Absorbing Man Bust (2005)

How appropriate to end this week with a Bowen masterpiece of the spotlight character! I know this is late – I didn’t think I was going to be able to even post tonight. But this piece was one of the only Hulk’s foes that I was missing from Bowen’s busts – I never picked it up four years ago and couldn’t find it for a good price. The only set-back to picking things up off ebay is that you have to add in shipping to the final price that you paid for something – and I just wasn’t willing to shell out what people were asking… so I went without.

That is until I took a trip to NJ this weekend and popped into a store selling this bust for %50 off. Snagged it! This really is amazing – and I have to say that a talented guy named Jim Maddox sculpted this – not Bowen himself – but man, oh man, I can’t see Bowen doing any better of a job with it! My favorite part is the real chain connecting his ball – let’s not forget that Absorbing Man was a prisoner when Loki granted him with his powers of absorption!

The expression on his face is even more impressive when you consider that I was actually used for this model! Alright, that’s a lie – but it does kind of look like me. Except that I am not half made of rock. Yet. Anyways, the great this about the Absorbing Man is, after the first battle, Absorbing Man never beat Hulk again. Yet he keeps on trying… why? Just give it up bro!
A Week of Absorbing Man – Thursday (TIH #261)
I just love this cover – I know there are a few issues between #125 and this one – but I freakin’ LOVE the placement of the characters on the cover! And – maybe some of you can’t recognize the style – but the artist on the cover? The one and only Frank Miller. Yes! That Frank Miller! I know what you were thinking – the Director of “The Spirit”… yup, that’s him!
Ultimate Hulk / Iron Man Mini Mates (2009)

Ultimate Human was a recent mini-series that was probably one of the most enjoyable Hulk stories for a while. The Ultimate Hulk is a controversial character at best – some love him, others think it’s a little too much – having him eat human flesh and all – but I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone that didn’t totally like this storyline. These mini mates are pretty great – and the face on the Hulk! Did someone just kick him in the nuts? Did he just smell something disgusting? Why does he look like that? Is that supposed to be rage? Yikes!

Anyways, I didn’t know this was coming out – and I was surprised when I found it – so just to let you know – it’s out now, make sure you check around and get it!
A Week of the Absorbing Man – Wednesday (TIH #125)

I actually showed this comic before – almost 2 years ago… have I been posting that long? Wow. So the Absorbing Man actually gets the better of the Hulk in this issue. He absorbs the Hulk’s power and Hulk falls – just as Creel is about to bury the Hulk under a mountain of rock he loses all of his power – because the Hulk has turned back to Banner! It’s a great issue – you see a hero fall – but the villain still loses. I like that they show the Hulk can lose sometimes – it made his character that much more vulnerable. The Hulk is a character with so many layers – it’s astounding that people don’t know more about him – all they know is Hulk Smash…
Anyways, the Absorbing Man never gets the best of the Hulk again – but in this issue – he is the mack-daddy. And it showcases just how amazing Trimpe’s artwork is…
Hulk SHS Rampage Rescue Tank (2009)

I am having a dickens of a time finding all the new Hulk pieces out there. I was scouring – did I just say “dickens”? Yikes, when did I turn 88? – all the stores in my area trying to find the new Hulk SHS, the Handful of Heroes, the new Ultimate Hulk Mini-Mates… oh, you didn’t know about the Mini-Mates Ultimate Hulk? Well, well… how about the new Hulk Pez – WHAT?!? There’s a new Hulk Pez? – that’s you saying it, not me – Yes! There’s a new Hulk Pez! And I have found them all… except the SHS figure… damnit.

Anyways, here is the new SHS Hulk vehicle – the Rampage Rescue Tank! First off, who left the keys in the ignition for the Hulk to steal a freakin’ tank! Nice! And did they leave a Gatling gun in the front seat? Cause the Hulk has it now! Remember the scene in Predator where they tore apart the jungle and – right after Jesse the Body died – and he had that mega killing machine gun? That’s what Hulk has slung over his shoulder! This toy is cool – mainly because it has revving sounds and moves on its own! Woo-Hoo!

A Week of Absorbing Man – Tuesday (Journey into Mystery #114)

A mere two issues after the classic Hulk vs Thor issue a new villain appeared – The Absorbing Man! Although he was given his powers by Loki and he was a powerful match for Thor – he became a major Hulk foe. So perfect for the Hulk, in fact, that he’s had a spot in Hulk’s 1996 line of action figures AND the 2003 line AND the recent ML Hulk line. I don’t own this issue… yet… but this is the first appearance of this classic villain. Next up – the first match-up against the Hulk!
My new Cabinet!

Check it out – Vintage cabinet dating back to the 60’s – filled with Hulky goodness! Tell me what you think. I have already filled it with more than you see here. My trip to NJ proved to be very good – Hulk wise – as I picked up a couple of busts as well as finding a few packages of those new “Handful of Heroes”. I picked up almost every Hulk figure in the series – but I will be posting those later this week – until tomorrow gammabros!

Lower CabinetA Week of Cobalt Man – Wednesday (TIH #174)

I wanted to make sure that I at least finished off this cover gallery this week of Cobalt Man – but tune in next week, even though it’s a shorter one I will showcase a Major Hulk villain!
