Here is the second Mini-Mates set that I am showing. Am I in the minority to have wanted Sam Elliot back as General Ross? I mean, that man had the mustache that was born for this role! Listen, William Hurt did fine – but Elliot was perfect! Let’s put this to a poll, shall we? Why not? We haven’t had a poll for a while!
Anyways, this set is fine. The battle damaged Hulk looks a bit ruffed up – but more like Pig Pen from Peanuts rather than a beat up Hulk. I do like the sneer on Hulk’s face. I would’ve liked to see a bit of extras thrown into these sets. The Abomination/Blonsky set is the only one that has extras. They could have thrown something else into this set like… ummm… oh! What about… well, this isn’t as easy as I thought. What the hell did Gen. Ross have? He didn’t really use a gun. What about a little radio? That’s it! A radio!
I think the statue is far better than any of these pictures show! This is not in my collection – the owner did not want to sell it, but I still had to show it! I emailed the owner about the details – he hasn’t gotten back to me though so I will tell you what I know…
Back of the Statue
This sucker is one of a kind, weighs about 50 pounds and is a whopping 16/17 inches! Grey Hulk here was commisioned from a sculptor who had to work with an image about 3 inches big. Is he wearing riding gloves? Only real tough guys wear those! They completely clash with the Daisy Dukes he’s wearing though… The proportions may be off a bit – the skinny waist, the legs are too short, not muscular enough – but to me I think it adds to the uniqueness of the piece.
Profile - Back off Bubba!
The Hulk always has been handled differently by artists. I think the whole statue works – the boots, the gloves, the excess of the pants collected around his ankles – all of it gives this statue a great presence. The details in the statue are great – from the bulding veins to the ripped shirt. It reminds me a lot of the cover to The Incredible Hulk #23 (volume 3):
But thank goodness he didn’t include the little pups. And – maybe it’s just me – but you got to make the pant legs longer! Hulk would never wear shorts that show off his cheeks… I would’ve also liked to see a base. I’m big on statues having a base. I would’ve liked to see maybe a street rubble base. Grey Hulk statues always need to have a different feel to them than a green Hulk does. This Hulk definitely screams Grey Hulk. Screams Fixit! Thanks to the owner of Comically Speaking for allowing me to show you this unique and amazing Hulk piece!
The pic above is the promotional pictures for the Marvel Masterworks Series. It looks WAY better than the actual piece does. Now listen, this crafty seller has a way with words – that much is true – but he’s also what we call “a scammer.” Describing the plastic toy as “resin” that’s just deceitful. Yes, resin is plastic – technically – but resin implies something else all together. Ready for the worst part? Yes, he sold this one for $41.00 (click on the image) – but the first time he pulled this – calling it a “statue” – he sold it for $195.00. Seriously… We need to be smarter than that. If you haven’t heard of a certian piece – then ask about it! Don’t just bid and be sorry later!
I’ve been in contact with a few Hulk collectors out there. Sean is from Austrailia and he has quite the Hulk collection himself! It’s harder to do overseas because the toys don’t make it over as readily as they do here in the states – which is funny to me because they’re made overseas… The pics are bigger than I normally post – but it’s hard to contain all this awesome-ness!
Sean likes to take a lot of his figures and make customs – as you can see. He has plenty to drool over. Take a look at his Red Hulk figure:
Or there 2 King Hulk customs:
Maybe Sean can shed some light on this Hulk right here – it looks to be made of plastic – hollow, but really cool! What about it Sean? What is this Hulk all about?
This little dio looks to be influenced by Byrne’s Hulk run… am I right here?
The Ultimates Wolvie vs. Hulk has had a few great moments in it’s small incomplete run – but the most famous moment? Hulk ripping Wolverine in 2! And Sean masterfully recreated that scene here:
I am a huge fan of the cloth pants on figures – just like the old Mego Hulks – or like sean did – made a modern Hulk version. Check it out!
I like the green version he did of the Ulitmates Hulk. As much as I like the grey Hulk – this figure I almost have to admit looks better in green!
I wish I could show you all of the pictures he has – all of the customs up close – like the Dale Keown Hulk – guns and bunny slippers and all! But I will leave you with a group shot! Man, seeing all of this together makes you just feel all warm inside! Doesn’t it? Leave comments below telling Sean how much you enjoyed viewing his unique and literally “incredible” collection!
This is a pretty funny ebay auction for a transforming grey Hulk green Hulk. He’s kidding, right? If anyone buys this then I hope it comes with a free tack hammer to which the seller should whap him or herself in the head till they see pretty colors…
I would love to have every variation of every Hulk statue there is out there – in fact, there isn’t too many I don’t have – but when I saw this re-paint I just had to get it! I was impressed with how nicely this sculpt lent itself to the grey Hulk. I’m extremely pleased with this paint job. Bought in Reading at Comically Speaking, the owner is a nice guy who owns a ONE OF A KIND Hulk statue that I will show you next.
TWINS!
I have a regular version of this statue – and since there is only 3000 of these maquettes made – that makes it 2999 green versions and 1 grey version! Factoring in how many have been damaged or abandoned it’s estimated, by me, that there is actually only 2996 or 2997 left!
What up playa? Kickin it old school!
This is # 1476 – so count that one out now! I really like how the painter highlighted the veins on this Maquette with a light purple color. With the new Marvel Select figure out I’m not sure if the Maquette’s worth will hold up over time. There was a time that the Maquette was selling for around $200 on ebay – the latest has been hovering just over $120. Funny enough – one just sold for $62.00 – but it didn’t come with the box. People are so finicky about that. They want the box with the statue! It’s weird, you’d think it’d be all about the statue – but they want the whole package! Anyways, I’m very happy with this piece – I hope you like looking at it as much as I like having it!
These statues have now been on ebay for months. The seller has tried to sell these for months now.. please don’t bid on them! They are recasted from Bowen’s original bust – and as we all know, recasters are thieves who seek profit off of work that is not their own. Boo to this.
Double shot Friday! Hoo-Hah! I am pleased to say, after I fell in love with this sculpt I was informed that there is just one left – and that I could buy it for a reduced price! Matt Brundage, a sculptor that frequents the Statue Forum, is the artist who created this. I showed this kit already (in JG’s collection pics) and now this is mine! And I love it! I already sent this little guy out to a painter, named Jen, who lives in Texas. I asked her to paint it up into a grey Hulk statue rather than the green you saw here:
But man, oh man, that green looks really good. I have absolute faith I picked the right painter for this kit – I’ve seen her other work and it’s amazing! I also had a good feeling because Jen is my sister’s name. I can’t wait to show you the finished product – but for now you’ll have to do with the pieces of a great, unique Hulk sculpt. I will post this when I get it back – can’t wait!
This variant has made it onto the shelves for the past month. They are still pretty expensive so I’m not picking up a double to open up but I do like these colors rather than the green. Why? I have no idea. While the green Hulk is more prevalent I like when the grey Hulk peers his ugly head (only when it makes sense in the story) but the grey Hulk is more fun! And let’s face it – grey Hulk toys are harder to come by!
Back of Package
The only thing is – very few sculpts on toys fit the two styles of the different Hulks. The green is more muscular and human looking while the grey Hulk looks more like an animal. Very few toys can support the 2 colors and look as good as they do – the new Marvel Legends Savage Gray and Classic Green Hulk are one of the rare figures that pass with flying colors. The Transformers do as well – mainly because they start as tanks 🙂 Vehicle to Hero! Well, that’s great as long as they don’t get stuck in traffic on the way to helping you. I also appreciate the fact that they did a whole new backing card for this figure. It’s the little things that make my day better.
They released it in 2008 – but in reality the show ended in 1982 – and not to mention the last season here has only SEVEN EPISODES on it! 7! The T.V. series gave way to the T.V. movies that followed – all on DVD now, including the end of it all – THE DEATH OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK – where Hulk dies after falling from a helicopter. I hope I didn’t spoil anything for you there. If I did, well, BOO FRIKKIN HOO, the movie was released in the early 80’s – get on the ball man! The moving cover features a shot of the Hulk and turned slightly you will see Hulk’s fist punching through a green brick wall. Here, Here for the classics! Tomorrow – a variant! Does that entice you to return? Just one word?
They finally released the Hulk movie Mini-Mates, well, about a month ago now, but I’ve had other stuff to show you so… this is the first of 4. 3 of the 4 come with a Hulk mini-mate and this is the regular Hulk. Banner’s looking all suave and debonair not like the nerdy scientist we’ve all come to love – shirt buttoned only so high – the t-shirt poking out, he’s ready to clubbing for sure! And where’s his glasses? By the way, I never put these in the figure section at top they always go into the toy section because, let’s face it, these are tiny little toys! I’d like to discuss these further – but there’s nothing else to say really and Monday/Tuesday posts were like friggin’ novels. Tune in tomorrow for something I should have posted 2 weeks ago! Woo Hoo! I’m a rebel!
If you scroll down to the vintage letters column post where little Billy makes a joke about Hulk having a green thumb – well – I just found this photo that proves he’s right! Good Goly the internet is great!
Jade Giant is a friend off Statue Forum and Hulk Space. He – like a few others Hulk collectors out there that I know – have collections that absolutely rock. There’s quite a few extremely rare pieces that he has. A lot of the Hulk items he has are in storage – so he displays the figures, the statues and kits – a nice clean looking display that I envy very much. As much as I love to show you my Hulk stuff – here’s a great look at a friends Hulk collection. Let’s get started here…
We will get close up pics following...I love the hardwood floor!
Now, you can’t see to many of the items just yet – first I wanted to show you the set-up of his room. Everyone should be lucky as to have a room to escape to filled with their favorite character (or characters)!
Action Figures Galore!
There’s quite a few Hulk goodies on this shelf to remark about. Let’s start with the single greatest Hulk figures ever made – the Face Off Hulks! I also see the Mighty Muggs Hulk quite a few Marvel Legends Hulks like The End Hulk, Planet Hulk, Skaar, Maestro. Also, on the top there, plenty of the movie Hulks and the Target exclusive Hulk. Toward the bottom the Ultimate Hulk next to the Hulk bank – and on the other side the Hulk Cookie Jar – both of which I have yet to add to the collection. Quite the set-up of action figures. I have most of mine still in the package – but sometimes you can’t help but to buy one to open up. I’ll have to ask JG if he opens all of his up or if he likes to open them up and let them breathe. Moving on…
Hulk Statues Galore!
Man, I am just drooling here – looking at all that green! Some immediate items that catch my eye is the 2007 BD Hulks. Yes, not only does he have the grey and green but the Faux Brinze Hulk as well. With the 2003 green BD Hulk and the 40th anniversary Green Hulk bust – both of which I have been trying to snag for the right price (I have their grey counter-parts but want the repaints). Let’s take a closer look at some of the unique pieces here:
Joe Fixit in all his glory!
You might recognize the Fixit bust from BD – but the full size Fixit is a customized ARH Hulk. Remind me to ask JG what ARH is… I love the suit – and the expression on his face – priceless. His fedoras were always too small…
Mike Hill and Mouldart Busts
These 2 busts are great as well – both of which I don’t have… 😦 The one on the right is from Mouldart and I was outbid on an ebay auction about 4 or 5 months ago for an unpainted one. I love the paint job done on this – and can’t wait to get one in the future. The other bust – unfortunately – I will not be getting. About 4 of them exist and JG was lucky enough to be one of the recipients. Created by Mike Hill this is one stunning piece. Next up…
Bust and Kit by dynabol!
I am lucky enough to have purchased the kit on the right. I have not posted it – just got it (unpainted) and have sent it out. I will be sure to post it when Jen returns it all painted up. But both of these unique pieces of art were created by Matt Brundage. The bust was the study piece for the kit – and the bust, yeah, also ONE OF A KIND! Man, JG is such a lucky guy!
wow - wow - and ehhh...
Here’s a Planet Hulk statue from ARH, man I wish I knew what ARH was…, if Bowen wasn’t releasing the Planet Hulk FS soon then I would be scouring the earth for this… I love the skulls on the base and the pose that the Hulk is in.the Art Department Hulk – it’s a really nice piece – they have an Abomination kit as well that rocks just as much! Lastly, the Attakus Hulk. I have been quoted many times as saying that the Attakus Hulk is not my favorite – or even my least favorite – in fact, it’s not even on my radar. Then again, the Attakus bust wasn’t on my radar either until I got for pretty cheap. Then, seeing it in person made me swoon! So maybe the statue is the same way. Only issue is I wouldn’t pay the prices people are asking for it.
All in all, JG has one of the most beautiful set-ups and most complete collection of statues and kits that I – or anyone else – has ever seen! Thanks to JG for allowing me to show everyone on my site his Hulk room. JG is working on getting a site of his own up – when it’s running I will be adding it to my Blogroll, of course! He’s a great guy – pretty much everyone in the Hulk community is! It’s funny, the few Hulk collectors I talk to have been really nice, generous people who are more than happy to help a Gammabro out here and there!
No Kidding – anyone missing a bit of that David touch to thier Hulk stories these days can take solace in the fact that he still writes for him – just in this one right here Marvel Adventures (which is Marvel stories, just more appropriate for the kiddies) – and this cover looks really familiar – someone giving homage to the great Sal Buscema and the cover from The Incredible Hulk #280?
