Tales To Astonish (1963-1965)

tta

These are the few Tales to Astonish I have.  I have #91 against the Abomination (#90 is when the Abomination first appeared)  #69 with the Leader.  Tales to Astonish was a shared Hulk book.  See, when Hulk was cancelled after issue 6 in ’62 Marvel gave him this book that he shared with Giant-Man and Sub-Mariner.  My favorite cover here is #77 where Rick Jones is telling Ross the Bruce Banner is the Hulk.  After issue #101 (which is up there) they gave the entire book to the Hulk and renamed it “The Incredible Hulk”.  Kinf of like what they are doing with Vol. 3 issue #112, giving it to Incredible Hercules.  It’s Karma – that’s what it is!

Hulk Encyclopedia / Guide (2003)

ency

With the first movie out they released two Hulk Guide books.  One released by DK and the other released by Marvel.  The Marvel one seems way too hard to be trying to hype the book – like Marvel does – trying to boost sales (including Hulk #34 and Ultimates #5 seem like cheap gimmicks)  The Guide book deals more with each decade and characters of the Hulk.  It’s geared toward kids more but still useful if you want to know the Jade giant’s past.

Hulk Trades (1996, 1998)

Hulk Trades w

The Ground Zero trade I just got finished reading again.  What a great story, It has everything, even a surprise ending.  And that’s not easy in comics.

The Beauty and the Behemoth trade covers some of the life and times of Betty Banner.  From when Bruce and Betty first met to when she was turned into the Harpy, when they got married, when she told the Hulk about the baby, when they were reunited and of course when she died.  Really complete.

The Transformations covers alot of the ongoing changes the Hulk has made over the years, such as, in issue #3 after Bruce returns from space he learns that he can stay the Hulk in the daylight (unlike the first couple of issues where he only changed at night) and then when Bruce Banner was in control of the Hulk and had to use a ray gun to change himself back and forth.  My favorite scene is when Bruce tries to change into the Hulk but the ray only changes his body – not his head – so he has to wear a Hulk mask.  Another great transformation covered here is when Banner and Hulk were successfully separated and Doc Sampson tried to get rid of the Hulk.  Then they found out that the Hulk and Bruce can’t live without each other, so the next step was to put them back – and that’s when the Grey Hulk returns.  Some other great stories are included as well.

Lastly, Ghost of the Past, the return of Hulk’s greatest enemy – The Leader – this story is a great one that Pitts Hulk against The Leader who has now turned the Redeemer into Gen. Ross – Betty’s father.  Great stuff.

Hulk Sliding Puzzle (1978)

Sliding Puzzle

As you can see, it says “Super Brain Teaser” at the top of the package.  Isn’t it funny that Hulk is giving you a Super Brain Teaser?  If you gave Hulk a Super Brain Teaser he’d just get mad and rip off your head and say something like “Hulk got your brian teaser right here!  How you like that, bitch!”  Or something like that.

Good Toys Gone Bad!!!!!!

These bootlegs of real action figures are just shameful.  I do not own these – these are from a website full of knock off toys – click here to see the site.  I can’t decide which is worse though – the purple pants and purple feet Hulk or the Hulk in blue underwear with blue knees and blue feet.  What the hell happened here?  I own the entire “Smash and Crash” line and I can’t recall these Hulks… maybe that’s because these monstrosities are cheap knock-offs.  Goodness, what a shame.  I feel for any child who wakes up Christmas morning and found these things under their tree.

Hulk: Gray Wall Bust (2005)

Wall Bust

Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s Hulk: Gray comic brought mixed reviews.  Some liked it, some hated it but no one really loved it.  I liked it, just for the record.  But this wall plaque is really cool.  It looks as though the Hulk is busting right through your wall.  It’s not very big – about 8″ – and the sculpt for his face is a unique choice, (makes him look a bit constipated, like, you are wondering just what’s happening on the other side of the wall) but all together, this is a great piece.  The scuplt does capture Sale’s artwork really well, and this piece, #369 out of 1000, does make a Hulk statue collection complete.

Wall Bust 2

Hulk Hands (2004)

Hulk Hands

What self-respecting Hulk fan didn’t go out and buy these hands right away?  These are the coolest Hulk item to come out in a long time.  They later made the same product for the Fantastic Four movie that came out (they were Thing hands – how queer – who really wants to be the Thing?)  But these are great because when you hit them together or you hit your sister in the face they make a growling sound, a raging Hulk sound, or they say “Hulk Smash!” and them grumble.  A perfect 10 for a collectible.
