I have so much new stuff to show you that I am trying to figure out what to show next. I want to show things that I got that are still pretty sought after – such as these bad boys. Wal-Mart exclusives and actually pretty damn cool these are a bit larger than the Hulk Samsh Hands – still haven’t seen the Hulk Mega Hands out there – these are cloth, just like the brand new Hulk Hands, but they make Abomination crashing sounds instead. These are the kind of exclusives I have been looking for! I just wonder why they waited until the DVD release to bring out the big guns!
Abom Hands are a bit larger - bigger hands means bigger...
Make sure you get to a Sleepy’s to pick up thi… wait – did I just say “Make sure”? I meant, if it’s on your way to or from work – or if you find yourself in the vicinity of a Sleepy’s then pick this up if you feel like it. It’s not like this will be worth – or even better – WILL be a waste of time. But, hey, why not? If your in the area…
Another cover from the Bruce Jones run. This cover actually had a bit of controversary due to the fact that Marvel wanted to use a very popular brand of cereal – but the company said no – and they had to use a generic looking brand instead. I think it was Rice Krispies. Man, I haven’t had Rice Krispies in YEARS! Do they still make those?
I told you I had a great weekend… and I was stunned when I walked into Dartmouth’s Wal-mart and saw The Incredible Hulk wave 3 figures! But even more curious? The Hulk I ordered from Hasbro.com was packed opposite then the ones I found in the store.
I have no idea why – and thankgoodness this isn’t the late 90’s when they would consider this a variant. Seriously, this would be considered a variant. It would say something like “Right packed boulder Hulk” and “Left packed boulder Hulk”. They would both be going for like $100 until people realized there was no difference in the packages and they would plummet to $5 overnight. Don’t believe me? Well, who remembers – I’m sure there is some of you – who remembers the Power of the Force .01/.02 variants? The figure, card, everything was the same – except on the back of the card, near the UPC label, there was a sequence of numbers that ended with either a .01 or a .02 – and people made a huge deal out of it. Why? Because they had too much time on their hands and took action figures a little too serioulsy…
Busy weekend. Really busy weekend. That’s good and bad – but mostly good. Mostly because when I’m busy I have the chance to scour stores for different Hulk exclusives. Or even better a rare Hulk variant that I thought I’d have to buy off ebay. Nope. Found it at Target. In fact, I found TWO! I couldn’t believe my good luck! One of these great Hulks are on ebay right now. Here’s the link, if you’re interested:
If you want this figure – bid soon because the auction ends soon. If you email me letting me know you saw the auction on my site – I’ll give you half off shipping. Cause I’m nice like that 🙂
Close Up of Classis Hulk - Look at that perfect shade of green!
So, on to the figure… I hate to say it – because I have no idea how easy this figure will be to obtain – Who knows if Marvel will flood the market with these – but this is easily one of the best Hulk figures I’ve ever seen. I mean, the original grey figure was really good, but the green figure makes this one of the best! A top notch paint job with the outstanding sculpt makes this figure a true must have. Whoever decided to make this an actual variant was brilliant because it’s thick, heavy and classic Hulk!
Back of Package
The back of the package even shows the Green Variant on the back as the figure to get. They even printed up an entirely new card. Man, they thought of everything to make this figure as great as possible! They seem to pack 2 of these guys in a case – but who knows how many more cases will be coming out – it replaces the Savage Grey Hulk that is longer in the line-up.
Looks like Sideshow is coming out with a new Hulk dio – and I am going broke… 🙂 Click on the image for the full effect and look for the pre-order to come up soon!
By the way – I am trying out this new poll feature wordpress has. I kind of like ’em. If they’re annoying, let me know. I am only planning on putting polls when they apply though – and this post applies!
UPDATE: It’s up for pre-order! Click on the image to get it! I ordered mine!
I read this Wednesday night – so let’s see how my memory is… This one-shot is a lot of fun. It has 4 stories that feature the Hulk and some of the classic movie monsters. The first story guest stars Frankenstein. The story begins with Bruce avoiding the army in the streets of London. He is approached by a man who drugs the Dr. and brings him to Frankenstein’s great granddaughter. She asks Dr. Banner to help her keep her family’s legacy alive. The monster is just barely alive but with the help of Bruce he begins to show signs of life. It isn’t until Banner is knocked out again and strapped to gurney that he realizes that he’s being used for his inner beast’s power. The monster gets a dose of Hulk blood which helps rejuvenate him. The Hulk and the monster trade some blows but as they fight the army approaches. The army starts firing on the Hulk. Frankenstein’s great Granddaughter tells the monster to get away but the monster sees the Hulk being attacked. He goes to help the Hulk and the army re-directs their attention to the monster. This story was fun – some pretty decent artwork – so I give this part a B-
The next story is from Steve Niles (the writer of 30 Days of Night) who brings us a Wolfman story. I was a little surprised to see him writing the Wolfman – I naturally assumed it was going to be a vampire story – but that’s what I get for assuming. Anyways, the Wolfman, pre-full moon, hires Banner to watch him until the morning comes. Things go awry when the night falls and Banner is still too close to the cage. The Wolman scratches Bruce and he Hulks out. Hulk rips open the cage and starts to fight the Wolfman. Surprisingly, the Wolfman gives the Hulk an actual good fight. It’s a little silly – but eventually the Wolfman runs to try to kill a couple of teenage lovers (a nice little homage to the original stories) but Hulk catches up to him and saves the kids. Wolfman somehow gets the Hulk in a sleeper hold and knocks him out just in time for the sun to come up. Both the Hulk and the Wolfman transform back. Bruce awakens to find money and a note saying thanks… Wolfman knocks out the Hulk? Gay! C
The next story is about 2 pages long with a classic Marvel monster named Gonk or Zoom or something like that. I told you I didn’t have the book in front of me. It was a little throw away, joke story that was funny enough… C+
Last up is the story that I was looking forward to the most – Peter David takes on Hulk vs. Dracula. Unfortunately it is not written in comic form and I didn’t get to read it all yet. I may get back to you with the review – unless someone else wants to give their opinion. But that’s about it! A read that may get you into the mood of the upcoming holiday!
This summabitch is a hard guy to photograph. I see these on ebay being listed for $80.00. Don’t buy this for $80.00. It’s light weight, hard, clear plastic and feels and looks kind of… cheap. The base isn’t even solid and the paint is a bit sloppy and unimpressive. I really hate giving bad reviews to Hulk items – but I must be honest. I was lucky enough to get it for retail (which was $30) and even that seems like too much. I wish the people who produced these took a little more pride in their work. I mean, seriously, this could have been kind of nice. Most of the exclusives that I have seen are a little more on the dissapointing side. The bronze Hulk paperweight was too little to be considered worth taking seriously.
Hulk #7 will have an appearence of the grey Hulk! As much as I love to see the Grey Hulk – I hope there’s a reason why the Grey Hulk shows up. There’s always been a reason why the Hulk’s personalities have changed. I have absolutely lost all faith in Loeb actually using any kind of reasoning for his stories – but I will stick with this title for loyalty reasons only…
I will be keeping my eye on this – but I think it will go way out of my price range. Click on the image for the auction – but damn – that would be really nice!
When the first wave of Hulk toys came out I was in Wal-Mart almost everyday looking for new Hulk stuff. The lady there saw me and we had a nice back and forth. One day I noticed this display with all the SHS figures and I inquired about it. She asked me “Wait, you want the display?” I said yes and she said back “…Okay!” and immediatley bagan taking the figures out of BOTH displays. I was shocked and said “I didn’t mean you had to do it now – I can wait till your done with it” She smiles and said back “Oh, I’m done with these.” Then she gave me TWO of these displays.
Right SideLeft Side
I was so happy – but to all the fans of this site you might be bummed to find out that I already gave away the other display to a Gamma-bro on the Statue Forum and HulkSpace. Hulk-Man might know this friend as Hulk5150. A teacher who has one of the best classrooms ever. I think there is a link on the side of the page called Hulk Classroom – check it out!
I wasn’t going to post this yet – but someone asked about it so here it is! I already posted a bunch of action figures this week but what the hell, right? There’s no order to this blog! I’ll just throw whatever the hell I want up here! I have an activity book that I should have posted weeks ago! But screw it! It keeps getting pushed back to the end of the line like the skinny, uncoordinated kid in gym class. I reported on this figure almost a whole year ago. It finally has come out. It is absolutely HUGE! And heavy to boot! bigbadtoystore.com has an exclusive Red Hulk variant. I pre-ordered both the regular version and the variant and am awaiting their arrival – but I saw it at my LCS and couldn’t help myself. When I get the figures in the mail I will bust this one out of it’s package and report on how great the figure’s articulation is but for now we can just admire how pretty it is. Or not is. The figure obviously is based on the sculpt of the Hulk Maquette but there are some minor differences as well – first and foremost being the face.
Marvel Select Hulk Close Up
The face is flat and not as unique as the maquette’s. It is still in the style, the clenched teeth, the angry expression, but where the maquette had more gums showing and more pronounced brow this face shows the eyes a bit more. It’s not better or worse – just very slightly different. Each hand is a fist (I always prefer having one hand open so that you can post the figure better) The price point hasn’t changed on these – $19.99 in the stores – but you can also find some better deals on the Internet so I would suggest hunting around. It’s still a definite pick-up though. Tune in next week when I will feature some of the new Mini-mates released, a Hulk halloween bucket, any of the toys that ToyJesus gives me the heads-up about that I can track down – a Hulk paper weight, and maybe even that damn Activity book…
This is one of the two 2-packs that have appeared on the shelves. It may be the last wave of these we will see so cherish them. I like these 2-packs – and is it just me or is that Hulkbuster using the Abomination Blaster from Nerf? He does know those are toys, right? You really can’t take down the Abomination with a toy – maybe someone should have told him before he pulled that thing out. Maybe he’s the new guy and it’s a little new guy hazing! Sick little game. Funny, but sick.
These figures might’ve sold better if they made these figures variants – just a slightly different version of the figures we have. But, hey – it is pretty cool that they gave them the toys that we can play with too!
There was a really funny skit about the Real World with the Mego Hulk – and a bunch of DC characters. I’m not sure why but Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Catwoman, The Falcon and Batman were all living with the Hulk. Still funny.
