Hulk #26 (2010) – The Review

Hulk #26
Vampire Variant

I know, I know – I was supposed to post this a while back – give me a break!  Here we go, Parker has a whole lot of fixing to do.  I know this – and I knew this was going to be an issue when he took over the reigns from a writer who seemed like Alzheimer’s set in after he started writing.  This means Red needs to meet up with all of the Marvel Heroes that he beat during Loeb’s tenure and Parker needs to not only explain that Red is on the right side now – but also set things right and make the heroes that SHOULD’VE kicked Red’s ass the first time getting there just desserts.  This i where the problem arises… we just had a showdown with Iron Man – and now, in the very next issue, he has another showdown, but with Thor this time.

Banner - with a verbal bitch slap to Ross 🙂

I felt like the original storyline could have gone at least another full issue.  Instead, Parker completes it in half an issue and onto the next “Scorched Earth” plan to dismantle.  This time it’s a pair of meteors heading toward earth.  Am I getting ahead of myself?  Sorry – let’s try this – Iron Man was not eaten by the people in the last issue – instead Tony got out just in time and remotely uses his machine to fight the people off.  Stark realizes Red is there to help and gives him instructions to the main power source and tells him to destroy it.  Red does what he needs to – and even saves a woman there – but it turns out she is infected too – but Red jumps off before anything is done – which means we will be revisiting that at some point.

Red gets to smash!

When Red rejoins Banner and Rogers – there is Thor – and Thor isn’t happy about seeing Red.  So he beats the hell out of him – but Red doesn’t fight back – he lets Thor know they are on the same side – but Thor lets Red know he doesn’t give a crap and shoves a lightning bolt up his a$$!

Hulk and Thor go at it!
... and Thor with the knock out!

Banner sends a hologram of Galactus to break the two up – and then Not Cap tells them about the two asteroids and the black hole.  Red and Thor head out and destroy the asteroids – but Red gets a bit too close to the black hole and begins to get sucked in… as told to him by the Watcher.

Red - doing his job!

Like I mentioned before – it would have been nice to let the original storyline develop a bit more but Parker really knows how to end on a cliff hanger!  We’ll see how this pans out – but maybe the Watcher is still holding a grudge over the sucker punch Red landed all those issues ago.  I know he’s just supposed to watch and all – but damn – you don’t let a punk ass get away with smacking you when you’re not looking!  Grade – B

Marvel Heroes – Assortment 2 (2010)

Marvel Heroes - Assortment 2

I’m calling foul!  Damn you Marvel!  I was about to showcase this sets card/sticker when I saw this in Toys R Us today!  Truth be told, I was seeking the Thanos MU figure – turns out many other people are too – but I saw this and became enraged!  See, these figures first came out last year in silver packs.  They came with 5/10 stickers and 1 figure – as far as I can remember.  I had the hardest time finding the Hulk figure until I saw boxes of this set in Target.  I picked up 2 and both came with a Hulk.  All this is fine and good – except that I spent all this time collecting all the stickers and figures only to have Marvel then turn around and package them together in 2 assortments!  They also come with a sticker inside – but I will get into all of this on Monday when I post the sticker set.  But man, am I steamed!

The Incredible Hulks #614 (2010) – The Review

Incredible Hulks #614

This is one of those issues that needs to be done – but before anything really good actually happens.  In reality, a lot happens in this issue – even if it doesn’t seem that way.  I mean, you’ve got the people of Earth trying to stop the planet of K’ai from coming – mainly with missiles – and Hiro giving a metaphoric roll of the eyes by ripping chunks of rock off the surface of the planet and throwing them at the bombs.

The Hulk... using the old noggin'

Meanwhile Hulk is busy ripping apart all of the crafts ready to launch into space after Hiro and Co.  Valkyrie, War Mchine, Ant Man, Nova, Beast and the artist formerly known as Captain America are all trying to stop him.  Even when they do – it’s because Hulk let them – and then the Hulk releases his secret weapons… his Hulk Get-Along-Gang.  Everyone attacks – but before they can do too much damage they are threatened with being blasted into The negative zone.  The Hulk lets Banner come out to talk to Steve.

Let the Brawl Begin!

Bruce lets him know that Hiro is the reason K’ai is hurtling toward Earth – and Hiro is his son.  This whole time Skaar is using his Old Power to reactivate the Sakaarian Space craft.  The Hulk group jump onto the ship to meet up with Hiro – the rest of the heroes wait for Steve’s command to blast them into The negative zone – but it doesn’t come.  Steve admits that the Hulks are running the show now…

The Family sets out to greet the long lost son...

The art is a bit stale in this issue – maybe we’ve been getting spoiled with the fantastic art before – but this issue just doesn’t live up to past issues.  There is a small back story contained in this issue that explains why Bruce has let Skaar tag along on what’s going to be a very dangerous mission to stop Hiro – it’s fine but doesn’t add much to the ultimate story going on.  I mean we all know Skaar has the Old Power ability and that he’s pretty ruthless when let loose – so, like I said – this issue is meant as a set up to the whooping to come – and I still can’t wait!  Grade: B-

#614 Variant - not sure why the Red Hulk is on the cover...

Random Hulk Cards!

Impel Promotional Hulk Card

I will be posting my review of TIH #614 tomorrow… working on it now – but I have just a few things left to show you as far as the cards are concerned.  The card above is from 1991 from Impel and it is part of a set of 5 or so other cards.  The card below is from the Silver Surfer series from 1992.  It’s shiny!  A prism card as they call them…

Silver Surfer Hulk Card
Same Card - Different angle - not as shiny this way
Silver Age Hulk

The card above here is from the Silver Age series.  It’s one of the chase cards and it’s pretty hard to find.  The Metal cards below came in a few versions – these are the Gold and Rainbow version….

Marvel Hulk Metal Cards

That’s it for about now – I think I will be able to finish this “Cards” theme by next week.  And even better – I am planning on a really special Ultra-Rare month next month showcasing some of the most unique and extremely rare pieces in the collection!

Marvel Superheroes – First Issue Covers (1984)

Marvel Superheroes First Issue Covers
Avengers #1

I found a box of this set on the Cape.  It’s a pretty fantastic idea of collecting just covers to the #1 issues.  So, of course we have The Incredible Hulk #1 and Avengers #1 – also both first appearances of the Defenders – Defenders #1 and Marvel Feature Presents #1 (Yes Gary, I know – that’s not the correct title) but also the Marvel Premiere Featuring #1.

The Incredible Hulk #1
The Defenders First Appearance!

It’s interesting to me when these supergroups form they want the Hulk to be part of it, and why?  It’s obvious really – he is the powerhouse you want on your side when things get hairy!  But the real point is – the Hulk can’t be controlled – can’t be part of a team… yet they won’t stop having him join!  Anyways, this is a great set – everyone should seek one out!

Incredible Hulk Topps Set (2003)

Some of the Byrne cards

This set – released at the same time as the Hulk movie set – is one of my favorite sets!  The images on the cards cover a lot of artists and span the Hulk’s history.  Byrne, Garney, Keown, Kubert and Larsen – and some of the most classic covers are in this set.  A lot of the images from the 70’s Hulk magazine also find their way into this set.  If you don’t have that series – it strarted out as Rampaging Hulk and then turned into the Hulk – you should pick it up, even for the artwork alone!

Some Garney, Kubert and Larsen

This is an impressive base set – but the chase cards are even better!  I really like the 2 chase sets – and one of mine is still incomplete, if you can believe that!  I will talk about that set first.  They are called the Gamma Ray chase cards – and each card has an image of the Hulk behind a shiny green backround.  These are great – the only problem is – they aren’t easy to find!  These is one set on ebay – but all I am missing is #7 – and I can’t find it ANYWHERE!  If anyone has it I would be willing to trade or whatever.

Some of the Gamma Ray Cards

In fact, I have a few extra of the next set right here – the Crystal Clear Hulk set – this has some of the most classic images from the Hulk ever – that encapsulate most of the card – the edges are green brick and other than that it’s see-through.  This was a hard set to complete – I had #1 and #4 – and then found a #2 – I was looking for #3 and #5 for a good price when I was lucky enough to snag an entire set from a international seller for about $5.00!

These are my 2 favorite of the set of 5
The Whole Set

Amazing Custom Job!

I love seeing the talented folks out there and what they can accomplish with a little imagination!  This custom here is such an amazing piece ot work!  Who would have thought that taking the fantastic Koto Red Hulk statue and turning it into the Maestro it would work so well!  The cartoony style of the original statue really adds to this piece – and yes, my review for the Koto Green Hulk statue IS forthcoming – but for now – oogle at this stunning beaut!

Marvel Select Abomination (2010)

Abomination in the package
Imagine meeting this guy in a dark alley?
Abomination!
Only a face a Mother can love!

Alright, I’m taking a break from all the cards for a bit so that I can review some of the other Hulk stuff!  I know some of you are probably psyched about this – but I started the card reviews and darn it –  am going to finish them!  But first on to this figure!  Can I ask – why is it Marvel can’t get an Abomination figure right?  I mean, don’t get me wrong, this figure is as close to perfect as you can get – less the feet.

Incredibly Sculpted - but not the Abomination's feet!

Alright!  There!  I said it!  This figure is amazing – and with the wrong feet!  What happened Marvel?  Abomination has two toes – two freakishly huge toes!  So, what the hell happened?  These feet are – as Sean said – “Big Monster Feet!” and they do look good – but they are not Abomination feet.

Wow! What a figure!
He Means Business!

But this sucker is huge!  And heavy!  You could throw this at someone and be brought up on murder charges because it’s THAT heavy!  Heavier than the Hulk that came out earlier – but just as big!  The texture of the skin is rough and wild – and the face is evil and scary!  One thing – I wish you could make the head look up a little.  But as it stands when you have him set up – it looks as though he’s looking down.

What a rumble it will be!

This is absolutely the perfect companion to the Marvel Select Hulk that came out.  All in all – great figure – just wish they didn’t mess those damn feet up!  I know Marvel Select is an expensive line – but with the prices that some of those MU figures go for these figures are actually quite the deal!  I’ve heard Juggernaut is on the horizon for this line!  I can’t wait!

Who can stop the Juggernaut? Wait... What?

Incredible Hulk Movie Card Set (2008)

2008 Hulk Movie Set

This here is just a 6 card set that has all of the actors in their roles and a Hulk and Abomination card.  The set is very limited to only 999 – I found this set at New England Comics in Quincy.  I was bummed that they didn’t make a full set movie cards for this movie – but this is at least something!  Each card has the actor’s name on the back and who they played in the movie.  I’ve never seen this set anywhere else and I am not really sure where it comes from – but if anyone knows I would be thankful for the info!

Come on back tomorrow!  I will be taking a break from the all the cards and reviewing… oh – that would be cheating – you have to come back tomorrow!

Hulk Movie Trading Card Set (2003)

They combined both comic and movie images

This was a fun set to collect.  I remember this set being one of the first sets that I tried to get every card – remember, these other sets I have were given to me – even the Marvel Masterpieces that I collected – I never really tried to collect the whole series.  I just got what I got.  But this set was one where I actually continued to buy packages to try to get the cards I needed.  Of course, that left me with several incomplete sets – missing just a card or two – also missing a few of the chase cards.

I love this two-some
... and the Big Guy!

I went into Larry’s Comics and saw they had 2 whole boxes – so I haggled for one of the boxes down to a price we both were happy with – and I went to town ripping these packages open trying to find the few missing cards I needed.  I needed base card #35 – got it.  Base card #50 – got it.  I needed chase card, Illustrated Film Scene, #3 -got it – and needed chase card #10 – DIDN’T get it.  I also had every famous cover card – except for #10 – and I didn’t get that either.  I was fuming!

JRJR does the Illustrated Film Scene set
All... bu #10 - which I have, but it's on another page...

I only needed a few cards to complete the set – so to ebay I turned.  I was able to get the Illustrated Film Scene #10 – but the famous covers #10 was impossible to find!  Unless I wanted to pay $30 for the entire set and have another ALMOST complete set of these… so I waited.  I have told the followers of this blog many times about patience… and this is yet ANOTHER story where it worked out.  I continued to browse ebay – and then one day I found an international seller – selling the exact card I needed – but he listed it under the year the comic featured on the card came out!  And there it was!  $2.00 later it was all mine!

The First Two Covers
Famous Covers Chase Cards

Anyways, great set – worth picking up!  I loved how the base set had both movie and comic images.  Again, this set is worth picking up!  And it’s actually pretty easy to snag off ebay for a pretty nice price – not like I did, the old fashion way, which cost me a fortune!
