Mega Blocks Hulk Playset (2008)

I promised the coolest thing ever – and I deliver!  At least I think it’s the coolest thing ever.  The Hulk Head is a playset – it opens in the back – it can also hold all the open legos once you’ve opened all the packages.  Actually my favorite part to this playset is the tiny Hulk and Abomination figures that come with it.  Ever since I saw the Spiderman playsets I was waiting patiently for these to appear in my local Toys R Us.  They never did – I imagined that they never made them – but then, much to my surprise, I saw this on ebay not too long ago and thankfully was the only bidder!  You can set up the whole last scene from the movie and play it out right in your own backyard!

The Abomination’s spikes on his back are so big that it makes him look like a punk rocker and, is it just me or does the Hulk look like a green, strung out Keith Richards?  They both are pretty hard to stand without the support of a lego base – well, no wonder!  Look how little their legs are!  Cripes, if they were really like this they would be dwarfs (or midgets, depending on how politically incorrect you want to get)

Yes, I will say it once more – this is absolutely my favorite item to come out of the Hulk merchandise – at least, so far…

This Looks Familiar…

Incredible Hulk #123
Incredible Hulk #123

I’m all for artists showing homage to the masters before them – but these 2 Hulk cover look way too similar.  One is Herb Trimpe – the other is Buscema.  The funny thing is – the machine on this cover also appeared on a Jack Kirby poster.  Marvel wanted to have a more current look to the Hulk so they had current artist Herb Trimpe re-draw it.  The controversary is covered in the KIRBY coffee table book that I posted some time ago.

The U-Foes?  Probably the coolest villians to face off with the Hulk.  They have a long history with the Hulk to boot – starting with issue #254.  The Hulk likes to smash them – and they must like it because they keep coming back for more!  Anyways, Ironclad here is the Big Gun in the team, still no match for the Hulk, but he’s their muscle.  The U-Foes have a starring role in the new video game – hence the figure – the sculpting could be better – he reminds a few people of those Rock’em Sock’em robots – but still cool to finally have a figure!

Hulk & Son of Hulk SHS (2008)

Skaar and Hulk SHS
Skaar and Hulk SHS

There are people who have expressed their distaste for the Superhero Squad.  There are people who have said that they are ugly – and here’s the good news – you’re right.  But let’s remember the other things that are terribly ugly yet still popular.  Who remembers Furby?  Or even better – Garbage Pail Kids?  Remember those?  They had 2 names for each character so you had to buy twice the amount of cards?  Man, those guys are marketing geniuses.  How about Madballs?  Who is old enough to have had those things?  I might’ve had all of them.  Anyways, my point is – these aren’t that bad – and they are of characters we love and adore!  Well, maybe we don’t love Skaar – but we all love the Hulk!  Here’s another dose of good news for all that don’t like this line: There is only ONE more 2-pack in wave 3 and the entire run is completed!  After next Monday there will no other SHS Hulk 2-packs.  Moment of silence please.  Does Skaar look fat to anyone else?  The Hulk here is a little… strange.  He has a ripped shirt still on that says Banner – that’s pretty cool – but the figure itself is a bit hoakie.  Who uses the word hoakie?  Well, see everyone tomorrow!

I could be wrong here – but I think it came out in 2003.  Anyways, It’s Friday and I’m all excited because I waited ’till the end of the week to show you this masterpiece (let you guys digest this awesomeness over the weekend).  Based on Alex Ross’ artwork (who I’ve heard is a tool – but man, what a talented tool!) sculpted by the very talented Mike Hill it is the only Hulk life size collectible – that is until the life-size props came out – but still, this massive piece commands attention and has landed a coveted spot in my Hulk room.

The base of this guy has a small name plate on the front, I guess that’s my only real complaint here, not a fan of name plates at all.  I know a guy who has a repaint of the bust.  He didn’t like the color of the original.  The color doesn’t really bother me.  Sure, it could have been a different shade – more based off the comics kind of coloring – but this almost pleases the Grey and Green Hulk fans.  At the same time!

They made 1,962 of these green goliaths – commemorating the year he was created (finally, someone got it right!) and this is #458.  I ask though, looking at the Sideshow LSB and this – why do the sculpters continually sculpt the Hulk’s face with gritting teeth?  A much better facial expression of anger is the screaming Hulk.  If screaming isn’t really an option then how about a miffed smirk?  Why not?  Why does he always have to bear his teeth like he’s trying out for the next Crest commercial?

Another comparison - with SS PF - but there is no beating the PF!

As you can tell the only other Hulk piece that beats this massive guy is the Sideshow Hulk PF.  But even he gets a run for his money!  Hope everyone enjoys their weekend – I will return on Monday.  Next week I will show one of my favorite Hulk movie merchandise pieces ever!

Bi-Beast Figure (2008)

Bi-Beast Figure (in all his glory)
Bi-Beast Figure (in all his glory)

A lot of people have said that they are going to wait for a BAF Marvel Legends Bi-Beast – but since Marvel hasn’t announced any Bi-Beast BAF this is what we’ve got – and I have to say, it’s not that bad!  It’s not in scale with the Marvel Legends figures of course – and it does have the armor that the Bi-Beast wears in the video game and most people would like Bi-Beast without the armor – but still!  Look at that face – er… faces!  I think this is till the most sought after figure of the third wave.  They were selling on ebay for about $30.00 when they first surfaced but are still available to order on hasbrotoys.com for retail.

It looks as though he’s wearing some eye shadow here.  That’s almost as embarrassing as his appearance in Incredible Hulk #412 where the faces argued over She-Hulk’s love.  Pretty bad – and that was written by Peter David.  If you want a good read then pick up Incredible Hulk # 169.  There!  Now you have the assignment – go to it!

Hulk Umbrella (2008)

I found this little guy at Target.  Funny enough, I can’t fit underneath it.  It’s too small.  I still get soaked in a rain storm.  I do like the little Hulk handle to it though…  I didn’t have an umbrella  – that’s why I bought this.  I try to get everything I can find – at least one of each kind of item.  Open Umbrella inside?  Yeah – I’m not afraid of bad luck, please, no superstitions here.  Like anything bad would happen to UUGH!  AAAAAAH! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
