Incredible Hulk #98 Page #1 (2006)

Page 1 of issue #98
Page 1 of issue #98

This is one of the 2 original pages I bought in New York.  This is the kind of collectible every Hulk fan SHOULD have at least one of.  These are truly one of a kind items that will remain in history forever.  And this comes from one of the greatest recent Hulk storylines there is – Planet Hulk!  Splash pages usually go for thousands – even regualr pages are pretty pricey – but this page was a great find and a great steal!  Look at that shot at the top of the page!  You can tell how much I liked it because I made it my most recent banner.

When Hulk is staring you down - take my advice - look away!
When Hulk is staring you down - take my advice - look away!

This page has King Miek and some of his followers.  I also love the shot of Hulk swatting Miek away.  How funny is that?  Cause Miek is an insect like creature after all!  The cover to this comic is my least favorite but I would still snatch it up in a second if I got it for a nice price!  The more art you collect, the more you want – consider that your warning.  The amazing artist that created this page is Aaron Lopresti with Danny Miki inking.  Man, I love this page – probably the best purchase a Hulk fan can buy!

UPDATE: This page was sold on ebay in March of 2010 – so that I could purchase a Deodato Page – so glad I did!

Hulk Family – Green Genes (2008) – The Review

Hulk Family - Green Genes
Hulk Family - Green Genes

Who picked this up yesterday?  Pretty darn good issue.  It’s nice to have some good old fashion Hulk stories after the crap they have been shoveling at us this year.  The first story, titled Your Lucky Day, takes place right after the events in The Incredible Hulk #344 – Ground Zero – my favorite Hulk story.  So, She Hulk is having her class reunion (Hey!  The old ’96 cartoon had an episode where Jen Walters went to her class reunion!  Weird.)  Anyways, she sees Mr, Fixit stroll through the casino and recognizes him as her cousin.  Fixit tells her she has the wrong man – he still doesn’t want to be recognized – she says she knows it’s him.  Two mutants come to Las Vegas – they say fate brought them there – and start causing trouble.  She Hulk takes Discordia while Hulk takes on the guy whose power is transforming fear into power.  It’s pretty sweet.  As they tangle Fixit starts to hear Banner’s voice inside of him.  He begins to take out his anger on the mutant.  He gets angrier and angrier when he believes Banner is calling him an accident – and Hulk says it was fate.  Just as he’s about to lose control and beat this mutant to a pulp She Hulk stops him.  She says she knows he’s not her cousin – because her cousin wouldn’t be so mean.

This story is such a refreshing change of pace from the drivel we’ve been served lately.  It’s violent, and funny (I like Hulk’s new name for She Hulk – which is She-Me) and each of the characters actually act like the characters they are supposed to!  B

This comic also features 3 other stories – each featuring a different Hulk member – Pak writes the Skaar story, which I wish I liked better but I just can’t get into it.  The Daughter of the Hulk story is okay – turns out Hulk’s bastard daughter has some compassion for males – which she attributes to her Dad.  But if you want to hear about these stories you should get the comic and read it.  I’m just going to give a review of the first story – but what did you think of it?

Marvel Legends Red Hulk BAF (2008)

Red Hulk BAF
Red Hulk BAF

It’s funny, you know, I said I had no interest in getting this figure – and I didn’t – but I had a friend give me both arms one leg and the head.  She had bought the figures for her son but thought the body parts they came with were too morbid.  I told her they weren’t just body parts but you collect all the pieces and it creates a whole new figure.  She couldn’t care less – so I went to Target and was very lucky to find the torso and other leg figures still there.  Needless to say I now have the Rulk figure – which I have to say – it’s pretty nice.  Too bad for the color 😉

The figure really captures McGuiness’ art really well.  He even towers over most of the Hulk figures I have.  I just got notice that the Marvel Select Red Hulk figure is on its way.  I have to say that I am kind of excited to get that one.  I’m almost sure it will be better than this one…

The thing is, about these BAF’s, they are really easy to pose!  Look as Hulk and the Rulk fight.  This is the way it should have gone down in the comics – right here, baby!  One punch!  Actually 2…  Hulk hitting Rulk, Rulk hitting the floor!  Bam!  It’s like 7th grade taunting all over again!

I will also take this opportunity to plug a great website – one that I like to frequent – check it out here – it’s the Captain Toy website that features a lot of great reviews.  The one in the link is the one he did for the Red Hulk series.  He’s usually pretty good and spot on.  I don’t always agree with everything he says but I don’t think anyone really agrees 100% with everyone.  For example, I agree with ALMOST everything my Dad says – except when he calls me ugly.  I am one humongous stud.  Everyone knows that.

Hulk Annual (1981)

1981 Hulk Annual
1981 Hulk Annual

This isn’t as vintage as I like my vintage stuff – in fact my idea of vintage is things made before 1980 – but what the hell, I live dangerously!  So this Hulk annual is not the normal kind of annual you would see published by Marvel in the U.S.A.  This was published in the U.K. in 1981 and it has a hardcover like most children’s pictures do.  I love the uniqeness of this book.  The cover is the Hulk vs. what looks like Mogol – but I am not sure.  I do know the inside cover has a freaky Ferigno inspired Hulk illustration.

There is Bruce and... AAAAAUUUGGGHHH!
There is Bruce and… AAAAAUUUGGGHHH!

This story starts off where Bruce is actually HIT by that truck.  Crazy beginning – but you can see the price tag in the corner there. 2.25 pounds.  I would have made that symbol but I have no idea how to.  That reminds me of a great story my friend Bill told me.  He works in a movie theater – some woman came in with tickets she bought off the internet – but she had a problem with the machine, she couldn’t get her tickets and she went to the customer service to complain.  Well it turns out that she had bought tickets for a movie theater in a town of the same name – except this town was in Europe.  Apparently she didn’t see the pound sign next to the price.  My friend Bill had to point it out.  Try explaining that to your credit card company.

Blonsky and Abomination Mini-Mates (2008)

Abomination & Blonsky Mini Mates

Blonsky and Abomination 2-pack
Blonsky and Abomination 2-pack

This is the best Mini-Mates set for one reason – it comes with accessories!  Everything can be made better with accessories!  I love the little Blonsky.  He and his unshaven little face comes with night vision goggles and a gun.  Abomination actually looks pretty good too – amazingly.  I think this version grew on me just a bit – but I’m still jonesing for the classic Abomination.

The detail they pu into these little guys are sweet!  Look at Abomination’s little toe nails!  Can anyone explain why these sets come with extra little feet?  I’m not really sure what they are for.  Anyways, Abomination’s back bones that are shooting out of his skin are doing the same on this toy.  Art Asylum has always done a nice job with this line – Mini Mates have become huge for a good reason – they are some of the coolest little toys ever!

Hulk Family – December…4th!

Hulk Family #1
Hulk Family #1

There was a time – not too long ago – when Peter David was writing the book that Marvel didn’t want Hulk to have a child.  Now he has a whole bunch of illegitimate bastards running around causing havok!  Thanks to Will for reminding me to tell you guys about this – click on the image for more info – even though it comes out Thursday!

The New Gimmick – Heading Our Way!

Defenders vs Offenders
Defenders vs Offenders

After the terrible Fixit cameo in the last story we have a new gimmicky storyline to look forward to in Hulk #10.  Here we see the Defenders against the “Offenders”  Wow, Offenders, huh?  That sounds… like a terrible name!  What’s their tagline “Prepare to be… offended!”  Yeah, well, already there pal.

Hulk #8 (2008) – The Review

Hulk #8
Hulk #8

Happy Monday!  I am excited that it’s December – and I wish I was going to start the month off with a bang – but instead I thought I should review the latest Hulk comic that I wasn’t able to get until Saturday.  It’s official – Loeb is writing this book with gimmicks only to sell it!  Now I have proof to back that up – do you want to know what it is?  Okay then, here it is… the fact that “Mr. Fixit” not only did nothing for the story but ALSO didn’t even last this whole issue!  He just turns back into the green Hulk out of nowhere – back to the green Hulk when it was convenient!

So here it is… The story picks up right where the last one left off.  With Fixit being confronted by Sentry and Ms. Marvel.  Fixit tosses Moon Knight into the air – Sentry goes after him and Ms. Marvel stays behind to beat up the Hulk – which she does.  By the time you turn the page it looks as though the Green Hulk is back – and no, Loeb gives no explanation as to why – but after Moon Knight dispenses pleasantries with the Sentry or… burns his face with stars… he returns back to the scene where the Green Hulk is beating Ms. Marvel.  Look, I know the Grey Hulk was never as strong as the green – but he wasn’t chopped liver like Loeb makes him out to be!  Moon Knight slips a Hypersonic into Green Hulk’s ear to take him down – Sentry comes along and knocks Hulk into a tower and almost knocks the whole thing down.  Of course, Hulk gets partial blame for knocking the tower down when all he really did was get hit into it.  Sentry and Hulk are about to battle when Ms. Marvel asks them to help saving all the innocent people.  Then, Moon Knight calls their attention to the fact that the Wendigo hybrids are still destroying and eating the people of Las Vegas.  Take a look in that last splash page and see if you can find the shot of one of the Wendigos who have ripped off some poor guys arm.

Then we join She Hulk and the Lady Liberators who are fighting Red.  By the way, when Loeb tries to rename the Grey Hulk – or Fixit – Fulk or Grulk, well, let’s just say it’s a good thing I lost my hair already because I would’ve wanted to tear it out at that moment.  Hey Loeb!  The Hulk is the Hulk!  No one needs to rename the Hulk – like they do your stupid creation the Red Hulk – so get off it!  Sorry, I had to get that out.

Anyways, the ladies are not fairing well – but Valkyrie saves She Hulk while Thundra shoots the Hulk in the face.  Which would’ve been cool except that she shoots paste at Red.  That’s what he says.  Paste.  Then she shoots him again.  She Hulk is saved from falling by Pegasus.  Is it just me – but She Hulk has handled landing a fall that big before.  She Hulk then jumps off Pegasus and lands on the Red with a “She Hulk Smash!” and knocks Lincoln’s face off Mount Rushmore.  She continues to choke the Red Hulk as Valkyrie stabs him right through the chest.  That doesn’t even stop Red as he gets up once again and threatens the ladies again – but he is interrupted by the arrival of The Invisible Girl, Spiderwoman, Storm, Black Widow, Tigra and Hell Cat.

Hulk #8 Variant
Hulk #8 Variant

Now, the book is still split in half.  That sucks.  Grey Hulk and Green Hulk change between characters without any reason.  That sucks too.  They Hulk gets his butt handed to him in his own comic.  Nothing seems to even phase Red – and the fact that he’s still around – REALLY sucks.  The only thing that doesn’t suck is the great art work – but it’s not enough to save the book.  Comic gets another F.

Items Revisited! Joint Action Hulk

Joint Action Hulk in Frame
Joint Action Hulk in Frame

Here’s the Joint Action Hulk I posted so long ago – but here it is in a frame that I bought.  I think it class’ up the piece – not to mention protects it from having any harm done to it.  I had an idea to bring this guy around to the many conventions I visit and have the Hulk artists and writers sign him – but I decided against it.  Maybe if I get a second – but this Hulk toy is too cool not to have a mint one displayed.

One of my favorite images is this one here of Hulk’s favorite nemisis’  Abomination and the Leader are in there – but Doctor Doom, Juggernaught, Mole Man, Bi-Beast, The Gremlin, The Rhino, Absorbing Man, AQON!  Can anyone name every villian in this photo?  I will give someone a real, genuine No-Prize if they can do it!  And I don’t mean give them names – I name the characters names from the original comic.  I will even give up my Hulk crown if you can name each comic that they all appeared in – without looking it up!

Here is my favorite image from the calendar!

The calendars nowadays don’t seem to have the same charm as this does.  The images you get are not nearly as impressive – or as big!  Check this out of you ever get the chance because I didn’t even show you all the images – just my favorite!
