Yes, that’s right – volume 8! While I applaud Marvel for continuing this series going I do have to give a strong jeers to the fact that they are charging $29.99 – and have even stopped using the glossy paper stock. Maybe they didn’t think anyone would notice – or more like; they don’t care. Still, I would love to see a collected Omnibus of the Hulk PD years – just as they did with the ASM McFarlane years.
Parker continues to shine as the Hulk title keeps going strong! Unlike TIHs which is striking a hic-up among some strong Hulk fans; Parker’s storyline , as it comes together, continues to be engaging and wildly entertaining! The last we knew MODOK 2.0, and Zero/One’s assassin Black Fog both took a swipe at taking out Red – but starting with issue #37 Parker is asked to tie “Fear Itself” or as most are calling it “ZZZZZZZZZ Huh? Wha..? Is Marvel still doing big events that no one cares about? Oh – awesome” but we’ll call it “Fear Itself” for short. So, the worthy Thing and Red battle – but the Thing… Ah – Angrir topples the Avengers tower onto Red – leaving him vulnerable.
Black Fog goes in for the kill – but MODOK 2.0 is like “Uh-uh – that’s mine!” and attacks him. The old logical MODOK would have realized that if someone want to kill one of his enemies, well, that’s less work for him – but the new MODOK wants the kill – he wants to be the one who does it, to revel in his kill. Sure enough, Black Fog does not take too kindly to MODOK’s advances and goes to kill him – but Zero/One stops him. She wants Red killed and figures that keeping someone alive who also wants Red dead will only help the cause.
Hulk #38
At this time Red gets taken out of the equation by being hit by the Thing and being knocked 15 miles away! Meanwhile MODOK and Zero/One combine forces to take out the Serpent’s army in order to keep them from taking over Manhattan. But as Red returns to his childhood home and remembers his Mom and tries to stop crying like a little girl he also runs into the Omegex. Cue dramatic music!
Sure enough Red gets knocked into my neck of the woods – good ‘ole dirty water Boston! Omegex continues it’s assault on Red – who is taking the beating pretty well – until Black Fog slices the tool of the Uatu right through the chest. I can’t imagine that really stopping it – but we will have to wait to see. If you are not reading Parker’s Hulk series it’s a shame – because it’s really good. I saw the whole “bad guys turning on each other” aspect coming – but it’s still good reading! Grade on all 3 issues: B+
When I saw this set I was pretty excited. We haven’t seen anything new from Mighty Muggs in the respect to Hulk for a long, long time. The line seems pretty dead except for exclusives – haven’t heard of a wave 7. Maybe I am wrong (it’s happened before) but I don’t think we will see a wave 7. Upon further inspection of this set I noticed that all of the Muggs are the mini ones – other than Giant Man – who really makes this set poking his head out of the top of the box!
That’s something of note – this set is one long box – not a bunch of little boxes connected together. As a result I have not seen too many of the Hulks offered separately. In fact, I have only seen this one – for anyone who wants it. But be warned – the Hulk is pretty tiny – not even HALF the size of the regular Muggs. I picked the whole set up for an easy $30. The only issue I have is that Cap and the Hulk were not on the team at the same time…
Toys R Us will be getting the Capcom vs Marvel Hulk vs. Mike Haggar in Ocotber – so keep an eye out… just saying. I know this is somewhat old news – but who cares?
I picked up a few more stickers – one of which will be replacing the window cling on my car right now – and because it’s just that cool – the Hulk for Class President – ’63, it’s classic enough but it looks like the pins of yesteryear that canidates were handing out. The other sticker I’ve seen everywhere and it’s a full body shot of the image that they’ve used the head from.
Incredible Hulk Sticker
Sure enough I found a magnet of the classic Incredible Hulk #5 cover. It makes me wish for the yesteryear of comics when I see these images. I have them all – but of course they are all stored away – so when I see these covers it reminds me of the fantastic stories inside. I get especially nostalgic when thinking about how they are now re-booting the Hulk AGAIN. Even if we count the original 6 issues in the same series as the re-titled #102 it’s still the fourth time they have re-booted the title. Keep in mind that the last time was just a few years ago…
Hulk face tattoo - it's okay to admit you want one!
I am really trying to concentrate my collecting – not picking up anymore backpacks and lunch boxes that I will not use – and instead looking more to the items I want to display – and trust me when I tell you I agonized over this purchase – only because it’s one of the most unique and hilarious Hulk items I have ever seen! A face tattoo!??! Not only do I want to wear it – and I am not talking about wearing it on Halloween – I am talking on a random Tuesday while I go to dinner – but I want to find another for Lex so bad! So, yeah – be jealous! Be VERY jealous!
Alright, let me just say I have not forgotten or abandoned you guys! I have a ton of stuff to still post I just have to find the time! So, that brings us to this – while I would like to delve into the original art with both feet – but the unfortunate part of being into any collectibles market is the rise and fall of prices and values. Right now OA is on the rise – and splash pages are an easy grand. Luckily, this Double Page Splash was not anywhere near that!
Beautiful mug! Love the rage in the face!
There are a few reasons that this page was considerably less – in fact, the biggest reason is – this isn’t actually the Hulk. It’s a robot. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s an incredible Hulk drawn by Joe Bennet and that is a double page splash. Another reason is that it comes from a short lived series – Nova, volume 2 – which, if you ask around, was a pretty good series. That seems to happen with the best of them – the best series don’t really last all that long. Too bad.
This is the kind of key chain I’ve been searching out – a nice big Hulk color Hulk face! They have been using this image a lot. Not that I am complaining – it’s a classic image! Unfortunately I have only found one – and in order to have one on my key chain I need to find another! That’s totally normal, right? You buy two of most everything? One to store in the Hulk room and one to use – I refuse to believe that is not how everyone does it!
I will get to posting more Hulk goodies from the Hulk room – but I am uber busy – so you will have to settle for the new game – guess which comic, issue # and artist that the panel above comes from – good luck! When someone guesses the right answer I will post one of the articles I’ve promised!
The one thing I love about the SDCC – it’s not the price of going – or all the hooplah – but I do love the sneak peeks – like knowing there is ANOTHER MU Hulk figure coming our way! Thanks to the Chase Variant Site (Click on image for link) for getting a fantastic pic – and of course to Gamma Pup who let me know this bad boy was coming out!
First off – above is a teaser poster for the upcoming Avengers movie – and yeah, the Hulk looks sweet as hell on it! Also, turns out that the Defenders are coming back and Betty – as Red She Hulk – will be on the team. Blah to that…
New Hulk Cartoon
There will be a new Hulk cartoon – YES! That also has the Red Hulk in it – Boo. But hey, I will watch it. Lastly, I know most people already know this tid bit – but Silvestri is helming the new Hulk relaunch in October with Jason Aaron writing. I will miss Pak – but more I will miss Pelletier. Silvestri has some talent – but I am not a fan of his Hulk. Click on any of the pics to be taken to the Daily Pop – which is an excellent site that also covers all this crap!
I really like the last plushie looked – the one I picked up at the Boston Comic Con. This one? This one looks like it was made by a 5 year old. It also looks like it was made from used wash clothes. Why does he look like this?
Which one would you like?
The first plushies have character – I pretty much like everything about them from the wild, bushy hair to the round, black, lifeless eyes and his tiny little ripped purple pants – the new ones have nothing redeeming about them at all. These will most likely land on my “Worst of 2011” list as THE worst item of the year. Mark my words…
What are those flaps on the bottom? Are those supposed to be feet?
The Good: Here is a surprise – not in the sense that this was coming out – but that it looks this good! I still think the price point is off on these figures – but I do like the details they seem to fit into the smaller bodies. This sculpt is leaps and bounds better than the ML figure we were given a few years back – not just the sculpt but the scale to the figures in its respective line.
Still not happy about the price tag - but these figures are looking better
The color is a darker green, which is way better than the teel-esque color that the ML is. I’ve heard there are 2 variants for this figure out there (Yes, it was reported on this site by the ever helpful Gamma-Pup) – not on the figure itself – but the base which you stand the figure on. One stand says “Son of Hulk” while the other says “Skaar” like the package does. That’s the other thing that this figure has over the ML one – this figure actually states his name rather than just “Son of Hulk”.
Skaar - He's a mean green mother from outer space
The Bad: Well, the card art is a pretty unfortunate choice. The art at the top looks like Skaar’s making his “O” face – or even worse – his “I just discovered a dead hooker in my bathroom – and my wife will be home any minute!” face. I still say that these figures should be packed with more than just a simple card and a love letter to Stark – maybe a mini-comic or something.
Hulk's son... still sounds funny to say that
The Ugly (Truth): If you are a Skaar fan – it is a must – I think it captures the brooding adolescent better than the ML figure does. If you are a MU line fan – it’s a must as well – this is a beautiful figure to add into the line and done very well. If you are a Hulk fan… well, make the choice up for yourself here – do you like the character enough to pick it up? I know I did – and I am glad I did. Grade: B+
The Good: Why does Parker torture me so? Why can’t he just write badly and make me want to trash the book? No, instead he writes solid story after solid story (alright, Planet Red Hulk was pretty bad) and it makes me want to read the next issue! Even worse, he’s writing classic Hulk stories the way no one else can – and over in The Incredible Hulks we’re getting a mess of characters weighing down the title.
Zzzax
So, here we are – MODOK shows his “face” – if you can all that ugly mug a face – and looks to kill off Red. He chooses Zzzax – which, as any good Hulk fan would know, is a terrible choice as Ross WAS once Zzzax – and that turns out to be the downfall. All Zzzax does is touch Red and the two are linked once again – and Red can make Zzzax work for him – something the new MODOK didn’t factor in. I do like this new MODOK – as Red mentions – it’s a more sadistic being – one that isn’t always just calculating on how to dispose of his enemies – but actually enjoys seeing his plans go into action – watching the killing! The art really works in this issue – Zzzax especially looks amazing! Red really shows a soft side for Annie – and it seems more and more that Zeno was right.
The Bad: Mostly, just the Cap variant cover.
Hulk #36 Cap Variant
The Ugly (Truth): Buy this book. Buy the hell out of it and read it and enjoy it. Pretend the Green Hulk stars in it and you may even enjoy it more! Parker’s last storyline was forced and pretty crap – but he makes up for it with “one of” issues this good. Grade: A
The Incredible Hulks #632
The Incredible Hulks #632
The Good: I will just say that the Hulk has never been so visually astounding! Pelletier knocks it out of the park EVERY time! It reminds me of the days when Keown first took over the art duties and you picked up the issues just to see who he was drawing and making look cool! The Hulk has never looked better.
Hulk's a little angry...
Now, if you’ve been waiting for Pak to cut loose and let the Hulk be the full on Engine of Destruction he is – this is the issue for you! Hulk cuts loose! Armeggedon – still sour on the way that the Hulk killed his son… twice – begins pummeling his kin-folk… and Rick. Hulk doesn’t stand for it for even a moment and just beats the living hell out of Ole’ Lefty. Get it? His right arm ain’t too useful grasping anything – just saying. Anyways, the Hulk doesn’t just hurt him – and I won’t say how – but we aren’t going to be hearing from Armie anymore.
The Bad: I am not sure whether having the “World Breaker” Hulk is such a good thing. I mean, before WWH the Hulk’s strength was considered limitless – but with the World Breaker it’s sort of like now we have a limit. Of course that limit can rip an entire planet in half – and that’s nothing to shake a stick at – but still. This, of course, means that the Hulk, in his most rage-full should be a good match for pretty much anyone. Getting him to that limit may be the real trick – but still, it can be done.
The World Breaker is Back!
The Ugly (Truth): I am here to say – that Pak is in full swing for his swan song – it took a bit to get me really hooked – but now I am! I want to see more – I want it now – I want what I want when I want it! Anyways, Buy this book – totally worth it! Grade: A
