Let’s all agree that The Hulk is under-valued here. 20 measly points? I mean as the biggest member he might be the easiest target but he should also be the toughest! Maybe I shouldn’t complain too much – at least he’s not in the 10 point category like Cap, Black Widow and Hawkeye! I remember getting a dartboard when I was a kid with actual pointy metal darts! Now we have magnetic or even Velcro games because god forbid we allow our children to play with some small pointy objects!
John Byrne should come back to Marvel to tell more tales! Let’s put any silly disagreements aside and make some more art! We need him back in comics! He obviously has the chops still as we’ve all seen some of his recent commissions. I also believe that he still has stories to tell! 1999 Hulk reboot aside I think his style would certainly fit into today’s narrative. This mini-canvas is great with the weathered look and classic art. Wall space is more the issues these days!
These may actually be a much better then the headphones that were posted before. The thing is – these are the only kind of headphones I can even use! It’s true, I cannot place things inside of my ears. Using buds make my skin crawl! I physically start to sweat and get anxious with even the thought of having something placed in my ear! Over the ear headphones are the only way to go for me!
I actually have both this and the Avengers Hulk from Bandai. They are basically the same except the first Hulk has those horrible tan pants. I ordered this off eBay and the box came a bit crushed – but overall, it’s actually a very cool, very articulated figure! The best part of the whole figure is the interchangeable heads – something I wish that Marvel Legends would take a cue from.
The hands are also a neat feature that can either be closed or open – or you can be a real rebel and choose one of each! It’s always interesting to get something international of the Hulk. I like to collect licensed merchandise – I don’t fill my collection with kits or bootlegged figures. When I do see an international figure it’s usually so pricey it’s not worth the pick up.
This figure is all over eBay for a crazy low price and as far as I can tell it’s pretty legit. It’s also a very brittle figure – nothing you want to play with or pose a lot. Basically, this figure was set up for pictures and then promptly put away.
I have to say, a side effect of having a friend who collects the set of blind boxes is that they inevitably collect repeats. The I have at least 3 of the original Hulks and two of the AoU version. I do like the sculpts of these figures – I have a complete set of the Sci-Fi and Horror figures and I wish that Funko was allowed to create these mini-figures without the bobble head. I think they would be much better without that feature.
There is another Comic-Con exclusive Hulk of these but I have yet to get that one. The easiest mystery figure to identify is the Iron Man Hulkbuster figure. The box weighed almost double what the others in the set did.
I know this statue is old news by now but I’ve had it since it first came out and I never blogged about it. I never shared it on this blog – which is weird since I did blog about the variant (which is easily one of my favorite statues ever produced) and this one has remained on my shelf unblogged about. It’s actually a little sad if you think about it. But here it goes: The Savage Hulk Statue from Bowen!
When producing statues these days you can either create the thing and then sneak teases to get people all into a tizzy – and then release the full image only to have people give you a tepid reception – OR – you can keep asking your customer base to give you input all along the creation process. The latter is how Bowen does things. That may be a good or bad thing – but overall, it seems to have served him well. I know what you may be asking yourself – wait, I can maybe have an effect on the product served to me? How? Where? Who? When? Was? Well, maybe not the last one…
Actually, it’s pretty simple, sign up for Statue Marvels and you too can be part of the process! As far as I know, that’s how we ended up with the 2 versions of these statues. The alternate head (or variant, if you’re more comfortable with that) was one of two choices for the head of the new Hulk statue. since the votes were pretty split and there were many suggestions to do both as FS Randy finally decided to do just that. Originally I was going to pick up neither – and then I saw the variant and knew that my hard earned cash was going to be spent! And then, seeing in hand pics of this behemoth and the very Buscema-esque face I told myself not to think twice. It really captures the Hulk from the 80’s in the comics – and it’s different enough from the variant, including the color, that it dodn’t seem like a waste picking up this beautiful piece form the innovator of comic style high end collectibles.
Mine is #394 out of 1900. My friend tells me that the statue market is pretty dead. From what I’ve seen out there I can tell you that the market isn’t what it used to be. I still love the statues but my statue buying days might be behind me. My LCS told me that they have the Planet Hulk statue from SS in. I looked at it – and am still considering it – it’s just so expensive and… well, space is a consideration. Never mind the fact that just because something is bigger doesn’t mean it’s better. But hey, You buy what you like, right? And I really love this green goliath!
There are times I have passed on Hulk items – and I know for all of you Hulk fanatics out there it’s hard to imagine doing so – but sometimes you just can’t see yourself spending the money on something – even if it IS the Hulk. For example, back in 2003 when Hulk items were abound there was a phone on the market. I have seen it in quite a few collections – but I just couldn’t bring myself to spend money on it.
That being said, these Gutsy Gear Patches (2012, $5.99) were pretty hilarious and just too good to leave behind. The great things about these patches is that you don’t need to sew them on – they work sort of like velcro – without two sides. It sticks to many different surfaces and comes off just as easy! Pretty fun pieces!
